Ever since the Armagedon board game came out, when we still lived in caves, I have been interested in the “history” of the confrontation.
I still have the game, now a bit tatty but still complete. The mechanics are a bit old school but still provides a good game.
When the Steel legion figures came out I put together a 1000 point Steel legion army for a competition. The army was based on an obscure reference about the B’Taani penal legion on page 16 of the “Battle for Armageddon” GW supplement.
“In order to bolster the number of troops in the area, two regiments have been hastily raised from the prison population at B’taani Bay penal colony. These units have been shipped, under armed guard, to the Aderbein oil platform. Currently, the two pipelines that link the platform to the Serestus River refinery are being drained. The penal regiments will use these to gain access to the tunnels and corridors below the refinery, where it is believed a large nest of Orks has been hiding out during the Season of Fire. To prevent interruption to the much- needed oil supplies on Armageddon Prime, the pipelines will be resealed and filled again as soon as the convict units are through them.”

Some of the formatting is now out of date and may not transfer, but it is enough to give you a feel for what I was doing, and also how important the “story” is to gaming for me.
Like always I bought about 5000pts worth of figures for a 1000 point army. I have decided to paint up the remainder, but I want to try and match the originals so they will be a bit more like my “quick and dirty” approach.
The current army:
There are a couple of 3 squad platoons and a lot of support and heavy weapons to finish. One platoon and some “specials” are about half done so I plan on finishing these over the next few days.

The GW imperial guard metal ranges are IMO (no H in there!) are their best.
Excellent looking army! The Steel Legion line are great models, just modern enough with their lasguns not being the 2nd and third edition ones and gritty enough to look lived in and authentic to the universe.
Really, they remind me of the best Forge World sculpts. Your paint job really brings out the best of them.
These and the Valhallans are my favourite 40k models.

I think they look great as well. I am not sure where I got them from or who makes them. Other than the eagle transfer on the front of the shield and a little bit of re-animation they are straight from the box.

Thanks John. I have had them for so long I am not sure where they came from. I think they were one of the special GW Cadian give aways with a tank purchase but not really sure.
Love the Steel Legion Imperial Guard metal troopers. Somewhere I have about 3-4000 points of them, if you include all the armor! I did mine in browns and tans, with the armor loosely based on German North Africa tanks!
Some day I may dig them out, strip everything and repaint them!
Hi Eric like you I had them stashed away for ages. It was the work I had done on the Tallarn and the Valhallans that convinced me to finish them off. Fortunately the old paint job was good enough not to have to strip them and start again.
