When Warlord Games first brought out their Test of Honour game, my mate Blake, and I decided that we would go all out and buy their mega deal. Several years down the track, and with no further action on both our part, Blake decided he was never going to use them, and gave them to me. A few more years later and the Ninja and peasants are finally completed (not part of the original purchase I might add) with the rest to come over the rest of 2021, at least that’s what is planned for anyways.
I divided both lots of plastic figures into two clans and chose the Mori and Oda clans that fought during the Sengoku period and currently depicted on the current Netflix “Age of Samurai” docu-series.
This worked out at 15 cavalry, 10 Samurai, 2 Foot Segeants, 1 Foot Banner Bearer, 1 Foot Musician, 14 Ashigaru Spearmen, 9 Ashigaru Archers, and 3 Ashigaru Flintlockmen for each clan. These are now almost finished, except I have only painted one foot Samurai leader for each clan – the other 18 are still in the pipeline. As I finish these off over the next few days I will post the results.

Ooooh, those are so nice! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing more! Way, way back in the very early 80s me and a mate decided to do samurai skirmish games and I went for the Mori clan, as I reckoned their mon was reasonably easy to paint. My skirmish force gradually expanded into a small army that ended up having Ming Chinese opponents in the early 90s but now neither seem to get out to play! I need to get myself a decent ruleset and get them all out again I think!
Thanks John. The test of Honour rules put out by Warlord Games are very basic but good for our mid-week games as we can get a game finished in a couple of hours. We also like the Command and Colours Samurai board game but using 15mm figures and a hex mat table as this really caputures the flavour of the period. C&C have just put out an updated set of rules that are now available. I have just purchased the Second Edition of Test of Honour now put out by Footsore Miniatures, the original owners of the system, and these are excellent. ghood luck finding a rule set that you like, and of course an opponent!
