Following on from Tiny Painted Heroes’ “Kongzilla” Post I was wondering what type of gaming projects people have on their list that may be a bit way out there?
For our crazy little group of PIGS and PIGLETS it is amazing how some of our way out there ideas have become mainstream, such as:
- Dinosaur combat using the Museum of Natural History scale dinosaurs;
- Batman and superman using heroclics figures;
- Cavemen v ….well anything;
- Starwars back when there was only the West End Games 25mm figures;
- all sorts of pulp fiction stuff;
- gangsters, zombies and all sorts of things that go bump in the night;
- 54mm Charge of the Light Brigade;
- 54mm DBA
- etc.etc.

These were really way out there when we started, but are now considered mainstream. The upside is that we now appear not that crazy, just ahead of the game! At least that’s my spin on it.
Taking a look at my potential future projects ( and these I am limiting to ones that I have at least purchased some stuff for) those of you who know me will be surprised that there are no really crazy ideas. These include:
- Ghost Busters – there are some figures and a Kickstarter boardgame with great figures;
- Egyptian Mythical – done already;
- Three Musketeers (I have 20mm and 28mm for this) – done already;
- Roman skirmish – done already;
- Burrows and Badgers – done;
- Harry Potter – done already (figures are great/rules crap).
Nothing in the League of Kongzilla!!
Although my Pulp Eqyptian Campaign based on the river city of Nokandoo goes close:

Gaming genres appear now only to be limited by gamers wierd and crazy imaginations.
I have started a Turkish army for with weird world war two of Konflikt 47 and am planning how to do a Indonesian liberation force based around the Battle of Surabaya in November 1947. And i need to finish my Rabbit Samurai army, but that hardly seems odd given you can just purchase the minis
Yeah I guess my point is that these days there is not much that you can’t get. I’m still finishing Nics Warrior Turtles to gight my Warrior Mice which I forgot to mention.
Some good plans there! 🙂 I’ve long had the intention of doing both alternative 19th Century and WW2 stuff, have got the stuff (and in 20mm that’s a challenge) but have not yet started. Way back in 2001 I started playing the Crimson Skies boardgame and had the idea of gaming alternative 1930s ground forces – this got nowhere, but since I’ve now got enough historical troops and vehicles for WW1/WW2 I think I’m going to revisit this. 3-D printing is great for alternative projects since there is just to much stuff available!
I have a whole pile of 28mm WW2 German paras, guys dressed up as Nuns etc, the Warlords Dad’s army, and a whole lot of Very British Civil War figures from Footsore to use for German intervention on the side of the British Union of Facists. Maybe a project for later on in the year as I want to finish all of the half completed stuff before I start something new. That is of course unless something shiny comes along. Oh look what’s that…………..
John the advantage of something like the VBCW is that you can use all of your WW2 and WW1 collection. And who’s to say that in your version of the VBCW that it cannot have ramifications in the far east with interactions with Japan.
Oops forgot to say that I am looking at Dunsterforce and the Third Afghan War after the close of WW1 as interesting periods as well.
You do know you’re a bad influence, don’t you! 😉
