Z Nation

Although this one is available on on Netflix I have always like the flexibility of having the DVD’s to use on multiple devices that may not have pay TV options. With the complete series going cheaply I decide to buy it.

I have deliberately not watched it so the couch is likely to get a hammering over the next few weeks as I work through the five seasons.

One of the critics said “Z Nation has everything you want in a zombie show: stiff, shambling creatures who growl and stare with lifeless eyes. Unfortunately, these are the cast members playing survivors.”

I agree the acting has a lot to be desired but after watching three episodes it has the quirkiness and action that i am after in this type of movie.

As far as Zombie titles go, Z Nation was a remarkable hit. The show did well enough to make it five seasons, morphing from something that straddled the line between campy fun and a character study with surprising depth.

Z Nation begins three years into a zombie apocalypse caused by a virus that has already killed most humans. In the days just before society fell apart, Murphy was one of three inmates at Portsmouth Naval Prison in Kittery, Maine, who were unwilling participants in a government-approved experiment. Each inmate was given a different test vaccine. Murphy was the only one to survive the vaccine injection. He is the only known survivor of a zombie bite who did not turn into a zombie, and his blood contains antibodies that are humankind’s last and best hope for a vaccine. However, he seems to be mutating into some form of hybrid between zombie and human—his skin is shedding and his body turning blue, and he seems to be able to control and even mesmerize certain types of zombies that he encounters; yet he has not turned into a full zombie and still maintains control of himself. The series revolves around his travels with a small group of survivors being led through the apocalypse by Simon “Citizen Z” Cruller, who watches the world from his multiple computers. The group is looking to use him to solve the zombie pandemic.” (Wikepedia)

The group must transport Murphy from New York to the world’s last known functioning Centers for Disease Control research lab in California. However, Murphy harbors a dark secret about his condition that threatens them all.

I have liked what I have seen so far and can suggest if you haven’t seen it already watch it on Netflix.

Warlord Games have a Project Z out on pre-order that is worth a peek if you are interested in the genre. It seems to have nothing in common with the series other than the 26th letter of the Roman alphabet! There are some great models if you just want to pick and choose.

From my viewpoint I think I have enough zombies but………………………………..

Hey there is always room for more, right!!!!

  1. Z Nation can be a challenging show to get through, especially near the end. It is indeed quirky, with tongue firmly planted in cheek. However Silly it got at times however, it continued to keep me engaged. It occasionally touched on some great ideas.

  2. Z nation was a very quirky journey, and will probably give you many ideas for different zombies as you see them through the series. I enjoyed for the most part, but prefer The Walking Dead, for a more serious zombie romp, if you haven’t seen it yet try Black Summer as well, the second season was a bit back and forth with the timeline but still worth watching.
