We took a trip to the pet shop today to pick up some things for our four owners Lulu, Missy, Garfield and Nermal!

I always take a stroll by the aquarium section because I often find tank ornaments that will go well on the table.

This is not new as a lot of us buy our palm trees and scenery from the aquarium section of pet shops. I was able to pick up a few small but quite large in 28mm scale Japanese lanterns for my “Test of Honour” games.

What was new, however, at least for me, was to pick up this 2kg back of “reptile sand” from the reptile section (surprise surprise) for AU$9.95. It will make perfect brown, slightly granular scatter for my projects and at a fraction of the cost than from a hobby shop. I suggest you take a look next time you are in one.

Happy foraging in the reptile ssssssssection!
PS Our furry feline fiends ended up with nothing!
We approve of most of this post – the pet store is great for terrain! Leonard doesn’t approve of the cats not getting a present, though!
Lulu, Missy, Garfield and Nermal were not amused either!
I use reptile sand for my 6mm miniatures to give a bit of texture.
Ah! A fellow traveller!
Great finds Dave, have been using bits from the pet store for many years,, including the plastic plants you get in the aquarium section, and reptile section, far cheaper than anything sold for wargaming.
I think we all have used pet shops for scenery, but it is the first time I thought about them for scatter. In the one that I went to their rocks and sands were a lot dearer than going to a hardware store.
The pet store is a veritable bonanza of goodness. I’ve scarfed up some great terrain pieces from there over the years.
I think we all have.
I’m not sure why the term Reptile Sand amused me but it did! the perches for your cats are a great idea, i might knock up some thing similar for the daughters cat.
I had the same quirky amused look on my face when I read it in the shop! The cats love the perches!
