The heir to the British throne said genealogy shows that he is related to Vlad, giving him a stake in the future of Romania. The prince has long worked to conserve the forests and has bought a home in the Transylvania region.

The Royal Family has links to several countries across Europe, including Romania, and it turns out that Prince Charles is the descendant of the real-life Dracula. The Prince of Wales, who actually owns several properties in Transylvania, is the heir to Vlad the Impaler’s bloodline.

The link, it appears, is his great-grandmother, Mary of Teck, who was grandmother to Britain’s current ruler, Queen Elizabeth II, and was queen during the reign of King George V. A Wurttemberg princess, Mary – the woman for whom the liner Queen Mary was named – was believed descended from two of Vlad’s sons.

Vlad the Impaler, the cruel 15th-century Romanian warlord who helped inspire Bram Stoker’s 1897 vampire novel “Dracula,” got his nickname from his favorite method of execution. His reputation for sadism and torture made him a legend in his own time. His victims have been estimated in the tens of thousands

So, obviously much of the Warhammer world is influenced by real world geography and history. There genuinely seem to be some good reasons to believe the Vampire Counts are based on the Third Reich.

Of course, there’s the whole Heinrich Kimmler thing, but Helman Ghorst also sounds vaguely similar to Hermann Goering, another leader of the faction. Apart from this, the vampire counts are an evil autocracy that seeks to take the place of the Empire, i.e. Germany being the obvious analogue.

All of this is a long winded introduction to my recent purchase from Crooked Dice, Vlad’s Army.

The fact that you can in one game combine Vampires, Zombies, Germany’s Sea Lion invasion, and Dad’s Army on the tabletop is absolutely AWESOME. What more could any self respecting Guru wish for! Couple this with the 7TV games system and you have a real winner.
