I went on my regular scrounging round of the local Thrift shops and came back with more great bargains.

Kokoda by Peter Fitzsimons is readily available but I have been refusing to pay the new price. For AU $2.00 it was well worth it!

This book alone sells for US$166.00 on Abe books which was a real steal at AU$4.00!

I have been wanting this one for a while, as Potts was probably Australia’s most underrated officer. As a first edition it was the most expensive book I purchased at AU$5.00 – less than 10% of the new price.

Another classic

This one is also difficult to get. I know have two of the three volumes on Rabaul and am still hunting for for Volume 3: “Target Rabaul”. It is available from the US 2nd Hand at US$60.00 plus nearly that again for postage. I will keep looking in Oz!

I have had a good run with books lately but this makes up for the fact that more often than not I come back empty handed!
Should keep you busy reading for a bit. š
Along with the other ten on the bedside table!
Nice haul mate. Why is it Kokoda that peeks your internet so much? Just curious.
Thanks IRO. It has been an interest of mine since visiting Kokoda in the early seventies when it was a far cry from the tourist attraction it now is. My Grandfather was also one of the lucky ones to survive.
The interest is not only Kokoda but the Australian involvement in the Pacific.
Due to MacArthur’s desire for glory we were limited to fighting in PNG which was an Australian protectorate and later in Borneo. As a result the interest is narrowed.
Nice haul Dave, should keep you busy.
Yes but heaps more to read before them!
Some great finds there.
Cheers,
Pete.
Thanks Pete. Most times I don’t find anything but every now and then I pick up some real gems.
Nice haul Dave
