I was going through my Grandfathers old photos from New Guinea and they inspired this slightly different post.

The Second Australian infantry rifle squad.

It is the same as the last few I have been painting, with NCO equipped with Owen Gun, a second rifleman armed with Owen Gun, a Bren Gun Team, and six rifles. They are to provide the infantry support for the Artillery.

As this was the last unit of the WW2 Australian 2/7th Field Artillery Platoon – I will do a round up of the platoon tomorrow.
Nice touch with the (sepia?) photos. I found hiking the Kokoda track one of the hardest exercises I have ever done, and I wasn’t even being shot at! I found New Guinea to be remarkably beautiful, though the sight of armed guards at the entrance to both the carpark and then the department store entrance a sad comment on the state of the society (at least in Port Moresby). The “country” people along the track were warm and welcoming. Bucko
Thanks Bucko. I was in my late teens when I did the trek. Not as much infrastructure and as you say bloody hard work. Nice to hear from you.
Very nice and very evocative too.
Cheers,
Pete.
Thanks Pete.
Great work Dave, and the sepia photo’s set the scene for the time period.
Thanks Dave
I agree that the sepia tone adds an interesting effect.
