I picked this book up from the UK national Archives

Warfare had changed significantly and no longer was the homeland free from attack. Rockets and bombs could rain from the sky and the civilian population were vulnerable. This book not only covers the military defence of Britain but the organisation of the populace as well.

As the threat of coastal invasion intensified in the United Kingdom, vulnerable zones were identified – particularly from The Wash to the Dorset coastline and parts of Eastern Scotland. Once identified, these coastlines and an inland area (sometimes stretching for a few miles) became regions of concern from the potential need for rapid evacuation, and plans were also identified to deny the enemy resources within these zones, should there be an invasion.

The book is an excellent collection of primary sources from the national Archives including letters, committee minutes, standing orders and high level communiques.

For someone like me who is very interested in Operation Sea Lion it outlines the planning detail that went into the defence of Britain. Excellently referenced and indexed it is a great resource for the gamer and researcher alike. As it is a compilation of source materials it is not the sort of book to read from cover to cover but if you are interested in the “what if” campaign then it is a must have.

Very glad it is now on my shelf!
