I normally don’t dream or have nightmares but last night I had this recurring dream that I could not get rid of. It was a man dressed in purple in the Rodin pose, but instead of thinking he was crying.

There was a large “devil” at his feet strangely trying to comfort him with whimpering sounds, and when he received no answer he spoke in bark like sounds asking “what’s wrong master”. He replied “our Guru will not build our home”, “our Guru will not build our home”, “our Guru will not build our home”, over and over again. Then a fine specimen of a woman came over to comfort him saying to me “look what you have done! You have made him cry”, in that tone that only a married man knows.

The man in the purple suit said “now Diana don’t be nasty after all he is very busy”.
“Busy my ass, he is just wasting his time baking Cherry Tarts.” She said with a vindictive voice. “He just needs to get on with it! Dave will be very disappointed he has not started his scenery challenge”
It was then the alarm went and I woke up.
Now I have embellished things a little……….well may be a lot but this afternoon I decided to get my ass into gear!

I wanted the skull cave to sit in a corner of the table so began cutting out various sized triangles with the foam cutter, trimming each until I had roughly what I wanted.

Checking regularly that the skull would fit until I had it basically right.

The paper mache skull I bought from Spotlight a large craft, knitting and sewing chain of stores. The foam is a dense insulation foam available from selected Bunnings hardware stores (ask first as not many stock it).

Next I will glue the skull in place and fill the gaps ready for painting. I like my hills to be practical to stand figures on so they will remain flat contours. On each of these I will cut a base to the exact side of the flat area to glue aquarium trees and plants on to represent the jungle.

I also bought a second skull today to build skull mountain for which I will rough out the foam before putting the cutter away so that I can clean up all of the foam off cuts at once.

This will be a rough peninsula style hill with a front cliff face with the skull commanding the cliff. Again it will be a stylised contour hill.

Cracking start Dave, and sorry about the nightmares, could be worse, you could have all your unpainted models screaming me next while your awake ! LOL
That happens now!
Funnily enough, I have that nightmare as well! 🙂 I suppose a worse one would be finding there was nothing left to paint, although I’ve taken steps to ensure that doesn’t happen! A good start on the cave though Dave! 🙂
Great start- looks like it will be a cracking piece of terrain.
Cheers,
Pete.
Thanks Pete.
I’ve read a fair few of the posts in this series, but it’s going to be enjoyable watching the process in a “binge”….
Most are not as “embellished” as this one!
