On the positive side I can honestly say that no miniatures were harmed in the making of this post and Guru’s normal level of sarcasm and weird humour are not diminished!

We played a game of “In Country” last night and had a ball. It is a modern skirmish style game. I wanted to try an asymmetric game between British regulars and insurgents. we played two a side with a total of eight British Regulars and 12 Insurgents combatting each other.

The British had the initiative and chose the Avenue of Approach (one long side on a 4X2 feet table).

British Alpha squad moves on to the table but is not hidden and suffers a casualty by Insurgents entering the opposite side of the table. Unfortunately the “measure” that the British used did not allow them to take cover or return fire.

Having already inflicted a casualty, insurgent W advance to press home their advantage.

Another of British Team Alpha is “down”.

Team Bravo move to try and relieve some of the pressure on Alpha Team.

By Bravo Team threatening Insurgent R, Insurgent W were forced to split their forces relieving some of the pressure on Alpha Team. Then all hell broke loose!

Brave Teams short range fire took down two more insurgents causing them to be suppressed (yellow marker).

When Insurgents R recovered one of them exploded a suicide vest killing himself and one Bravo Team.

The continued advance of Insurgent W finally brought an end to Team Alpha.

Not to be outdone a second Insurgent jumps up and yells out in perfect English,”That was not a suicide vest! This is a suicide vest” . True to his word two of Bravo team and the last remaining insurgents were lost.

This left a sole remaining Bravo Team member to take on the 5 Insurgent W.

Unfortunately, although suppressed and in a defence stance the sole surviving Bravo Team member was going to be soon overrun.

Before taking his last breath he gave the coordinates for a JDAM strike and replied to the fire coordinators question, “For the record, it’s my call. Dump everything you got left on my pod.” Apologies to Captain Harris (Dale Dye) in the movie Platoon.

Not exactly a victory, but hey why have big stuff that goes BOOM and not use it!

This was our first game of “In Country” and we were very impressed. We have a couple of rules questions that we will put to the Discord forum but this is definitely one that we will play again.
