Nope not the Nursery Ryme or even that advertisement for a popular brand of car, but with the current Covid-19 lock down in Melbourne we are back to getting our gaming fix remotely.

Last night about six of us got together over “Zoom”to have a chat. Some painted, some browsed the net while others just heckled. Most of showed off some “shiny stuff” we were working on. Here is my work in progress:

Advice was sought and answers given and we had a long chat about gamers being very specific about weapons and uniform colours when the reality is most of this stuff is conjecture. The archaeologist amongst us even cited the fact that Cretan archers wearing “red hats” has become so entrenched that fielding them without is seen as heresy.

This shot of British troops in Afghanistan shows that although at first glance they look the same, their equipment varies markedly. If we cannot be pedantic about what troops wore and what equipment they carried a decade ago how can we be so certain about troops three thousand years ago without the logistical support we have today. It is a bit like saying that because one soldier above is wearing knee pads every British soldier did.

An interesting discussion. Ninety minutes passed very quickly and although it wasn’t pushing figures around I had a great time. One of the advantages was that I was able to get together guys from two different groups that I game with that wouldn’t normally have an opportunity to talk with one another.

Despite this I hope it is short lived and we can get back to ( and I quote Dave K with much encouragement from Bucko) “indulging our fantasies on the table” once more.
