The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. The SAS was founded in 1941 as a regiment, and later reconstituted as a corps in 1950. The unit specialises in a number of roles including counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, direct action and covert reconnaissance. Much of the information about the SAS is highly classified, and the unit is not commented on by either the British government or the Ministry of Defence due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations. The corps currently consists of the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, the regular component, as well as the 21st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists) (Reserve) and the 23rd Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve), which are reserve units, all under the operational command of United Kingdom Special Forces. Its sister unit is the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Service which specialises in maritime counter-terrorism. The SBS are a project for “down the track” which is code for F.I.I.K when!
My SAS blades are from Empress Miniatures and are a combination of their US Rangers, and British Special Forces figures. The individualised nature of their equipment makes this reasonably accurate.
I have found 4 more blades for a 4th patrol that I was short of making up the standard troop of sixteen. I should have these painted in a few days.

Note I am uncertain as to what designation the patrol of 4 has that makes up a troop of 16 blades. I have assumed they follow the standard phonetic alphabet designations. Happy to be enlightened.

Looking good. I remember working/talking to a chap years ago who was in the regiment. I reckon he was on his blending into the general public bit. He was camping up at Capel Curig in Wales, He looked like an ordinary bloke, but there became a issue and somebody went off the deepend with him and started screaming in his face.. my first thought was exmilitary as he stood there during just took it…I would have said Walter Mitty, however he knew an awful lot… Still not definitive, however one of my crew got scared as she wondered what was in his bag as he had left it in my buffet car. He had an SA80 in it… which at the time wasn’t in full scale use by the regulars. I checked with an ex SBS mate and they were being tested by the SAS.

Great work on those- modern western spec ops types seem to be quite interchanageable with a lot of the high tech gear they have. Your figures look just like I’d imagine them to do.
