The SPARTANS and their heroic leader

No I am not talking about King Leonidas 1 and his brave 300.

But rather Master Chief Petty Officer John-117!

Now I have to say that I am totally new to the Halo universe, having only watched the first three episodes of the Paramount TV series. I am not a devotee of computer games and so have never played any of the Halo series of games either.

I am completely hooked after just these three shows, so much so that I have scoured the google universe looking for some 28mm figures. Most have just been conversions from other figures like GW Spacemarines, but I finally found some from Digital Artist Giorgio Donato. Unfortunately they are Digital files, but I have been lucky enough to have a gaming friend with a 3D printer who has agreed to print them for me.

Spartan Group 2

Here are the final prints after a few trial and errors! Thanks Chris!

The bases are from another 3D file.

As they have worked out I will look at some of Giorgio’s Covenant models to match them against. He has a great range of these with some samples below.

Elite Councillor Honour Guard

There is also a range of USC and “Brutes” (whatever they are). If you are interested in this genre it is work taking a peep at his website. I will let you know how the printing works out.

I will try and pick them up from “the printer” tomorrow and get them painted before Easter. Well that’s the plan anyway.

  1. Some great looking sculpts Dave, will have to find where I can watch the series, as I too haven’t played the computer games, but did see the movie, which unfortunately didn’t have much in the way of Spartan suits in it.

  2. Dave, in Oz they series is being shown weekly on the Paramount pay TV channel. I am picking them up this morning so hope to undercoat them today. I will discuss with my mate what Covenant figures he is interested. The deal is I buy the file and he prints them!

    • Looks like the UK doesn’t get the series until Summer, as I just went and looked it up. least it gives me something to look forward to ! LOL

  3. Firstly, love the minis! Secondly, so you’re saying you don’t have to have played the game to enjoy the TV series?! Might have to see if I can get it without upgrading to premium.

  4. Oh man, I spent a huge amount of my teenage years playing the original Halo games with my mates, I’m getting a massive dose of nostalgia seeing these. I must check out the show when I can. Looking forward to seeing these painted too. 🙂

      • 😂 I paint miniatures for fun, what do you think! 😂 Seriously though, and I suspect I might sound like a bit of an old fogey here, but it was the social side of those gaming get-togethers that made them what they were. We’d all gather at somebody’s house, wiring consoles together, maybe if we were lucky someone would have some beers, it was a party. Nowadays it could all be done over the Internet at the touch of a button which is probably very straightforward but doesn’t sound like as much fun to me. I wonder how many youngsters playing online games today will be reminiscing about them with the same pals 20 years from now? Now if I’m not needed for anything else I’m off to yell at the neighbourhood kids to get off my lawn.

    • I agree gaming is about the social aspect more than the “game”. I remember once my wife walked passed the table and said, “you don’t seem to have moved much in the last hour” and someone said to her “the toys are just an excuse to talk sh*t, and drink booze with your mates!
