Veterans are at home in a swirling melee, with man and mount moving with perfect precision, relying no on armor, but experience and control to evade the majority of killing blows.

That said, even the fearsome Dothraki are not suited for a protracted melee engagement. Wise commanders will bear such facts in mind.
