I heard a joke the other day. Who is the biggest supplier of military hardware to Ukraine’s army? Answer: equipment captured from the Russian Army!
Whilst apocryphal there is some truth in it, and it was the same for the Finns in WW2.
I have just started getting into playing Bolt Action over the last few weeks and my Finnish army, which by the way has never been used, is hopefully going to get its first outing tomorrow night.
The only thing not painted in my 28mm Bolt Action Finnish army was my transport vehicle, a captured Russian Gaz AAA truck. There were over 100,000 of these in service at the start of WW2, and many of them found there way into Finnish Service.
Other than horse drawn transport they were the largest form of transport in the Finnish Army.
The painting only took two hours from start to final basing with most of that time waiting for paint to dry.
The truck glued to an mdf base. I base all of my vehicles as it helps avoid wear and tear (friendly fire) on the table.
Undercoated with Tamiya TS3 spray paint.
Lightly sprayed with Tamiya TS28
Lightly sprayed with a cheap flat white undercoat.
Washed with GW Reiksland Earthshade.
Tyres, windows and metal bits painted. The rear wooden floor was painted with a kharki green/brown.
The wooden floor was then washed again with the same shade. Yes I should have painted this before the first wash to save time. – Gurus cannot get it right all of the time!
Flocking was then added.
The model was then varnished with Tamiya TS99 this fixes the small “snow” flakes to the vehicle and the scatter to the base as well as providing protection to the model.

The kit was a Warlord Games resin and metal vehicle that was simple to put together and paint.

That’s come out really well, Dave! 🙂 Interesting hearing your view on bases for vehicles – I don’t base them because it increases their storage footprint (I probably have too many vehicles)! But I can see how it makes them easier to handle.
I am a clumsy old bugger so it helps.

Thanks Az. It certainly is, and has already blown up in a game this week. Dying bravely by intercepting itself between a Russian T34 and its anti-tank gun tow that was able to turn and then take out the tank a few turns later!

would have been more accurate, but I thin k that would then make it a “slow vehicle” under the Bolt Action rules!
