Tonight I have organised a game of Men Who Would Be Kings in 20mm, and the turn out ended up being more than I expected. This meant I was going to be one Arab army short.

I had based an undercoated a “River Arab” (List No5 in the rule book), a few years ago but had never went back to.

To complete this in time was going to be a rush, and would require my E.Q.A.D. (extremely quick and dirty) painting style.

This consists of only painting what is absolutely necessary, not fixing up painting slips, and allowing the wash, basing, and alcohol to cover up any sins. The task consisted of 56 infantry, 20 camels, and an obsolete cannon. Three Arab generals to represent each player were also required.

Could I do it in two days? Well Guru was not going to die wondering.

At least I had plenty of French Foreign Legion.

I also wanted to finish a watch tower made up from some Airfix Fort remainder bits, and would require building some scratch built walls. I will tackle this last if I have time.

Wednesday night and one camel unit painted, one started, and the Generals undercoated.

Thursday morning and the second camel unit finished along with the three generals and the artillery piece. I will try and get some more done Thursday night but am not sure I will have time.

2nd Unit of Camels

3 Arab Generals

I cringe at this photo which shows what I mean by EQAD (Extremely quick and dirty). Lots of touch ups needed, harness not painted etc. which I will have to do later (nah probably won’t), but it get them on the table.
Besides my experience is that my best painted units always get touched up by the one unit my opponent hasn’t painted! Most people tomorrow night will not notice if the unit rolls well! Shhhhh. Don’t tell them about this post.

Thursday afternoon and two of the infantry units completed. I had to spend a little bit more time on these as they had to match the Airfix Bedouin I have already painted.

They will do as the Fierce Tribal Infantry

Thursday evening and I have changed the figures I was going to paint. I already had these undercoated and as they were for the Egyptian Army (List 4) with a white uniform I painted them up as Egyptians as this would be quick. just some dark flesh red fez and the boots and rifle, These are quite effective for an EQAD paint job.

These will be a good substitute for the Irregular Infantry which I will finish when I have a bit more time.
I might get the watchtower completed but I doubt it as I will be busy tomorrow. All in all it has been a huge rush to get these done, Rough but completed none the less.
Nicely done, Dave! 🙂 A good little project! A while sine I’ve seen Airfix Arabs painted!
Thanks John. I still have the camels to do with those fiddly little legs to attach to the base. I think I will just put a pin up through the base, but these are not a priority seeing I have a lot of the HaT still to do.
That’s a lot of minis to paint up on two days! But looks like you’ve done pretty good so far!
It was a good job to get them dome. Pretty not so sure!
Impressive work! Always good to see speed; it’s something I struggle with in my painting.
I really have to both play that game, and watch The Men Who Would Be Kings, I own it but not seen it.
Thanks. It is a great game. A Batrep will appear in a few days time.
Wow that is really impressive work.
Cheers,
Pete.
A case of quantity has a quality all of its own?
