In the tank attack, mortar, machine gun, and artillery support platoons the command units had additional men to provide close fire support and replacement gunners as required.
In a game sense, five men with Owen guns mounted in a Universal Carrier can be a very flexible and useful unit.
I will make another one of these for the Captains support squad.

From what I read the universal carriers are the unsung heroes of the infantry being able to turn their hand to almost any task needed of them.

Very true. The Aussie found they were of little use in New Guinea because of the terrain and the were vulnerable to hand grenades due to the closeness of the fighting. The American tried to use Australian Carriers and crews as tanks – you can guess the result! In North Africa and Syria they were extremely versatile.
