I have finally finished my Panzerkampfwagen V Panther

The development of the Panther tank was a direct response to the superiority of the T34 and KV1 Russian tanks they encountered during operation Barbarossa.

Far more manoeuvrable that the Tiger 1, the Panther tank was only slightly dearer than the Panzer IV to produce. Over 6,000 were produced between 1942 and 1945.

The use of sloped armour kept the weight of the tank down but maintained its protection level. The angled front 80 mm armour glacis plate gave more protection than the Tiger tank’s 100 mm vertical armour plate.

The Rheinmetall-Borsig KwK 42 (L/70) high-velocity gun was used by the Panther.

It was a 75 mm (2.95 in) gun with 79 to 82 HE, APCBC-HE, and APCR rounds, often in low availability.

Despite the moderate calibre, the large propellant charge and long barrel contributed to making this gun a very efficient armour-piercing weapon.

The shell had even more penetrating power than the 88 mm (3.46 in) of the Tiger. Secondary armament comprised, typically, of one coaxial MG 34 machine gun and one hull MG 34, usually fired by the radio operator.
