The Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle with scope made the ideal sniper rifles because its long barrel and small calibre bullet it emitted very little muzzle flash, smoke, or noise.
This enabled the sniper to remain hidden and to continue to harass ans pin the enemy.
The sniper rifle was also provided with special ammunition with smokeless propellant was introduced and produced in spring 1937, following their experience with Chinese snipers.
In the Malaya and Burma campaigns they often dressed in native attire and would attack allied troops before dispersing back into the crowd.

Some of the Nationalist Army of Chiang Kai-shek also used German uniforms, tanks, and other equipment. It is an army that can use Australian, British, German Russian, and captured Japanese equipment – very eclectic.
