Janissaries were once the elite of the Ottoman Empire, but by the time of the Napoleonic wars they were but a shadow of their former selves.

In games terms they count as the equivalent of a slightly “souped up” Infantrymen. They fact that they have a fencing weapon (a wire strainer?) makes them excellent in close combat.
