Red Alert! Red Alert! Gaming “face to face” at long last with the GGofGG.*

It had been nearly eighteen months since we had been able to get together as a group face-to face. As usual the game was just an excuse to get together, talk ship and drink copious quantities of fine wine.

We played the Richard Borg game Red Alert: Space Fleet Warfare.

The game allows for two to six players to fight it out in space. As usual with the Command and Colours system the play of command cards drives the action and creates a “fog of war”, while battle dice resolve combat quickly and efficiently. The Combat cards add an element of suspense and challenge players to maintain their star token reserves to power their Combat cards through the course of a battle. I particularly like the assortment of task force cards which chosen randomly means players are not sure what forces they will have at their disposal.

Two Fleets face of against each other

Blake and John come up with a cunning plan but one that was not good enough to defeat Steve and I

Geoff pontificates as umpire!

Mark and Steve trying to work out what to do, whilst in the background stands a very rare item – an opened bottle of red!

Blake and Geoff partner up to just steal a win by the smallest of margins.

The fleets amass for the second game of the night.

I like the system which allowed for two games to be played amidst the drinking, wise cracks and lots of BS.

A great night………..finally!

    • Probably the get together was more enjoyably than the game but that was OK too. I didn’t think the system would cope with space but it certainly did. The only problem was I couldn’t hear the screams!
