Mega Tron Bolt Action tournament 17th of June – a mountain still to climb.

I now have a little over two weeks to go and still quite a lot to get finished.

I need to finish the Bofors AA Gun:

I have 20 infantry to finish with all of them having a number of the painting stages completed leaving the models about a third done.

I have to finish putting together the Quad and limber for the Bofors AA and then paint it.

A Morris C9/B with 40mm Bofors to put together and paint.

Finally there are two Bren Gun Carriers to finish that I will be using.

Although not required for the competition I also have a MMG to finish, and four 2pdr AT guns to put together and paint.

An LVT 4

A limber for the 75mm Howitzer

A jeep:

4 Additional carriers, including 3″ mortar and 2pdr:

So that makes a minimum of 20 infantry, Bofors Gun, Morris Bofors truck, and 2 carriers to finish. I will be busy, but should make! The others will wait until whenever.

Spoils for the Septuagenarian

Well its now over a week since guru hit the 70 mark and I thought it was about time I let you guys know what I received. There was the usual

I’m the one in the “pretty pink”!

Also some liquid to imbibe:

Now not saying they weren’t good presents but I also received these:

This one is an oldy but a goody and one that I didn’t have. May double up as a campaign tool for my Bolt Action armies.

A great card!

SWMBO and daughter 2 purloined this one for me. Looks great and the figures are like any of those from Zombicide. Will do a review down the track on this one.

SWMBO also knitted a long scarf for winter. I kn ow we Aussies are softies when it comes to winter!

These 3D prints were also given to me, and as you can see they are already assembled, crews added and undercoated!

A pity I have to wait another whole year!

Australian Tank Attack Platoon – Lieutenant’s Support Team

Within a standard infantry division other than the standard “grunts”, a whole host of specialist trades were required.

Support companies like the Australian Tank Attack Platoon required a much larger group of specialists, including rangefinders, fitters, orderlies, drivers, and mechanics.

This section represents those supporting staff who could form a rifle section as well as be used for replacement gunners.

I wanted these to provide short range defensive fire to support the guns so have armed them with SMG’s.

To the left over Aussie scouts I added a few more and an officer to make up the two Support Officers and their teams.

Another piece of ordinance tomorrow.

Australian Tank Attack Platoon – Chaplain

I always try to include an army Chaplain in my lists if I can because I just think they are cool and I also had a very good friend at college who became one.

I am really glad that I brought a handful from West Wind Productions as I think I have painted about half a dozen of them already.

They add flavour to your army by aiding the morale of your army but are probable not worth the points cost.

Although I have painted this for the army I am not using it in the competition in a few weeks time!

More, I am afraid, on the Australian Tank Attack Platoon tomorrow!

Australian Tank Attack Platoon – Medic

This figure is the special character that comes with the Bolt Action New Guinea Campaign book – “Bull Allen”.

I used another model for the “Bull” in my Australian Jungle Division army that I put together late last year/early this year. For details about “Bulls” heroics here is the link to the previous post.

Tomorrow, you guessed it, more on the Tank Attack Platoon.

Australian Tank Attack Platoon – Forward Observer.

The Tank Attack Platoon may need to call in heavy artillery support should the going get a little tough. The Forward Observer can direct artillery fire support to any place within their sight if needed.

In a game sense the fire support can be a bit hit and miss, literally, but it is fun to have especially when it comes in on target.

More on the Platoon tomorrow.

Silver Bayonet Scenario 3 – a troll under the bridge?

A lot of people think I am a grumpy old troll. I object I am not a troll!

What will the three billy Goats Gruff discover this week?

Guru’s French advancing on the dastardly Prussians.

The Prussians advance towards the bridge.

Oops where did he come from.

French trying to keep the Prussians at a distance whilst the priest explores a clue marker.

Not to be as he is downed by multiple Prussian musketry.

The troll advances

Prussian advance towards a clue marker.

The French hero takes down the troll with his fencing sword with consecutive rolls of 10!

Prussian musketry causes the French to retire.

Wounds were accumulating for the French as they started to retire.

Just before he escaped the French hero was downed.

As was a musketeer.

The Prussians were clear victors as the scored points for all three objectives and the amount of kills on the French. The French scored points for the troll, with the French leader only receiving a flesh wound. The French musketeer was not so lucky receiving a permanent arm injury that will effect his close combat ability.

Another great game with Wayne.

The Battle of the Three Dave’s – Another Birthday Game

The eldest and his family came over this Sunday with a mango cake and figures for a Bolt Action game. He brought two versions of the cake. One for my developmental age……………………………..

and the other for the “old codger” age!

At least I had enough puff to extinguish the flame!

The game consisted of three generations of David’s fighting it out for Birthday glory. Grandson David was absolutely deadly with his dice rolling for me and totally the opposite for his father. Eventually middle David snatched the dice from his son and rolled even worse. Ahhhh Karma at its best!

David’s Commandos moving forward to capture the objective (the Matilda).

Guru’s Carrier seizes the objective.

Meanwhile, Guru’s other Carrier moves to provide flanking fire.

Jungle Division section and Lieutenant moves up to take the central piece of jungle.

The Engineers jump out of the Carrier and are promptly enfiladed with SMG fire taking down two of their number.

The central piece of jungle is now in the hands of the Australians.

Australian sniper team taken out by the Commando MMG.

The second carrier moves from the far left flanks to support the attack on the objective whilst the first is disabled by the Commando PIAT.

Things were becoming tight as the Australians lose their Lieutenant and the second Carrier.

A last desperate effort sees two commando units run to contest the objective. The Australians only had one unit left to move and unfortunately could only take out one of the Commando squads, leaving the other to snatch a draw out of the jaws of defeat!

A great game was had by all the Dave’s!

PS Lots of cake left over for Guru, Mwahahaha!
