IRA Active Service Units for Bolt Action Squad 5

IRA Active Service Units consist of 5 to 8 men.In order to keep to the 500pts I have kept each unit to six men. This also means that they will all have the ability to shoot as the only weapons other than basic hand weapons each unit can have are the leader with a pistol, one with SMG, 2 with shotguns and 2 with rifles.

The other two could be purchased although unarmed to act as casualties without impacting on the units firepower.

The additional points would mean that I would be unable to take any significant support.

The figures are all from Footsore Miniatures Inter-War period range using the brigands and IRA figure packs.

Tomorrow the last of the infantry.

New Year tomorrow, so another break from the IRA.

IRA Bolt Action Armoured Support

I have posted on this model before here way back in November last year. I have included it as the IRA Bolt Action list

In perhaps the strangest IRA twist Gerry O’Brien, an engineer. was able to re-commission a Mk IV WW1 tank being used as a gate guard.

Not terribly effective but when you have nothing else it’s better than nothing!

I have provided extensive information in the post “with the”Call out the Tanks” (link above} so I will refrain from repeating myself here.

I have chosen to upgrade the tank to a “male” version with two light low velocity anti-tank guns and three machine guns.

Ragnarök Kickstarter

This Kickstarter arrived just in time for Christmas Day!

It is the Mythic Battles Ragnarök Kickstarter by Monolith Miniatures.

There are oodles and oodles of figures at heroic 28mm size, with lots of really huge monsters!

To give you an Idea of size this is one of the 28mm Midlam Assassins posted on previously alongside the “Surt” character.

Here he is with the Ragnar Saga box. I can see these waiting for some time to paint, but you never know. Ho ho ho and launch the Dragon Boats.

Christmas tomorrow so a break from the IRA!

IRA Midland Brigade Mechanised Active Service Unit.

This is the start of a small 500pt Bolt Action army for operation Sea Lion. The first unit is the leadership team.

Contacts between Abwehr agents and the IRA started in 1937.In 1938, Seamus O’Donovan conceived the S-Plan to conduct a bombing campaign on the British mainland against military, industrial and civilian targets including newspapers and the Natural History Museum.

For some reason the IRA has always considered the British Museum of Natural History to be a hated enemy.

O’Donovan, aka Agent V-Held, held the IRA rank of Director of Chemicals (i.e. bombs). The IRA declared war in January 1939 in its self- appointed role as the official government of all Ireland.

Through 1939 and 1940, the IRA carried out some 300 bombings in Britain, killing seven, injuring 96, but causing no impact to Britain’s war capability.

In July, 1940, an exasperated Admiral Canaris sent a message to the IRA, “The Pfalzgraf Section very urgently requests its Irish friends and IRA members to be so good as to make considerably better efforts to carry out the S-Plan, which they received some time last summer, and to be more effectual against military as opposed.to civilian objectives.

Shortly afterwards Canaris ordered the IRA to cease these pointless attacks and build up their strength on the island of Britain. IRA active service units would assist the German invasion of Britain and in return Germany would unify Ireland under an IRA government.Page 38 Bolt Action Campaign Gigant publication.

To call the army list an “active service unit” is a bit of a stretch as these normally consisted of only up to ten men.
