Rescue the King (PIGS game 30 June 2021)

Who else but THE King!

With more zombies finished and P.I.G.S. “newb” Nick, wanting to try out a game of “Last Days” it seemed fitting that the first game at Guru’s since lock down should involve ZOMBIES!

As an ease into the system I chose a co-operative game using the additional “Seasons” rules with a simple “Rescue the king” scenario.

I also wanted to use an introductory game and designed new groups of survivors for each player. Dave and I now have very experienced gangs and our combined character levels would have made it difficult for Nick with a brand new gang to cope with the number of zombies clambering over him.

The teams:

Nick’s ex soldier team with a leader a Sergeant and two soldiers.

The “THUGS” of Dave K

Guru’s Mystery Inc Team of Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, Mr. E, and of course Scooby.

The city terrain “in the ghetto” we are trying to rescue the King out of:

TURN 1:

“Its now or never” to clear Zombies away from “The King”

“A little less conversation” as Mystery Inc. close in on the Police Station to attempt the rescue.

“Fools rush in” as Buggsy’s Gang trying to enter through the rear door of the Police Station

The SWAT Team position themselves “on the edge of reality” to use their firepower to clean out the roof top.

TURN 2:

“Don’t be cruel” Jeannie!

Mr E is “lonesome tonight” and shooting from the top of the subway across the road to the Police Station while Shaggy is “catching on fast” and lures Zombies away from the action.

TURN 3:

Jeannie takes on more Zombies and becomes “All shook up”

“Soldier Boy” shooting across the road to the Police Station.

TURN 4:

Elvis has a “suspicious mind” because the “Jailhouse is a rocking

The zombies have “lost that loving feeling”

Beginners luck” as a sole zombie survives.

The King is rescued and has left the building

“He ain’t nothing but a hound dog” but Scooby sure gets rid of Zombies.

“From a jack to a king” as the rescue is completed

Thank you……..thank you very much.

The super 300 Shuffle

Although I like listening to “the blues” I am not talking about the song by the Melbourne group the “Super 300 Blues Band” (which sounds a bit like a play list doesn’t it).

Nor am I talking about that great historical source material the 300 Spartans.

NO I HAVE FINALLY PAINTED MY 300th ZOMBIE!!!

Following on from my last batch of twenty five this lot pushes me over the 300 mark to 306 zombies.

All of the zombies are from the Zombicide game.

Zombie number 300!

I am now about to embark on finishing the Zombicide Seeker Zombies, Toxic Zombies, and Skinner Zombies.

Big Sigh……. there are about fifty of each!

Then I will be cured of the zombie plague………………………. well, at least until the Zombicide “Undead or Alive” Wild West Kick starter arrives next year! Oh and of course there is the “Curse of Deadmam’s Hand” figures as well. AND THEN THERE IS………???

How Korney can you get?

I have gradually been un-packing “toys” and putting them on the shelves and came across a box with a 40k Khorne Daemon army, some painted, but most not. I have long since sold the Khorne Bezerkers and their “skateboarding” Rhinos, but I decided to keep these as the Daemons could be used across multiple systems.

There is 48 “old school” Bloodletters, in three units of sixteen, plus some of the original GW ones from when Methuesla worked for GW, and when they actually could walk on water rather than just think they can!

There is also two units of eight Flesh Hounds, and special Character Karanak.

I also have some of the original Khorne Blood Crushers. Under the current rules these now have a Bloodletter rider, so I will mount some of the really old school original bloodletters on these as they are size compatible.

I spent yesterday afternoon gluing these together and under coating them matt black in preparation for the copious dry brushing of “Khorne Red”. Some pics of these when I finally get around to finish them which will likely be some time “tomorrow”!!!! They are categorised as “LOW” priority which means 12 months or more away for a commencement date.

New Shiny “Stuff” has just arrived

A board game, a Role playing Game, and some neoprene gaming terrain.

These double sided terrain mats are from “Monster Fight Club”. The prices were reasonable with the twelve mats costing me about AU$10.00 each landed from the US. The first mat has Difficult Ground on one side and flagstones on the other. The second has a Forest Floor and a Pond.

It was the forest floor which first attracted me to these, as my son suggested I use his mats for a game instead of the tatty green felt to designate the forest boundaries. They look far better.

The board game “Blood on the Ohio” presents the late 18th century struggle between a coalition of Indian tribes led by Little Turtle and the nascent American Army to determine control of the then Ohio territory. Known as the Northwest Indian War, Little Turtle’s War and Washington’s Indian War, this was the first major challenge to President Washington and his army following the conclusion of the Revolutionary War. Spanning from 1785 to 1795, the conflict grew out of a dispute over territorial boundaries following the war, aggravated by settlers flooding across the Ohio to claim Ohio lands then in possession of Native American nations.

The Miami and Shawnee were the principal tribes involved but in time they created a loose alliance with numerous other tribes and together they dealt the U.S. the worst defeat by Indians in the history of their Indian Wars. Washington sent three separate expeditions against them. The first two were handily defeated. The third and final expedition led by General “Mad” Anthony Wayne ended the conflict with his victory at The Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794.

The game uses a point to point movement mechanism, and a three dice simultaneous battle system with variable reinforcements on both sides, special action points, alliances and treaties, and frustratingly undependable American militia.

The American army operates out of forts, the Indians out of villages. Every two turns both players enter into quartering which in effect resets the board. Destroyed Indian villages are relocated while additional forts and settlements may be built as the game progresses. Indians raiding is a quick and simple mechanism that adds color to the game.

The counter are visually OK but the playing surface is just folded paper reminiscent of the S&T magazine games, and frankly I expect more these days.

Engagements are widespread and chaotic with surprises at every turn. Four scenarios are included – one per expedition with a campaign game that encompasses all three. Low counter density with quick and tense game play makes it simple to learn and fun to play from the one solo play through I have had.

“Magical Kitties Save the Day” at a Glance

Simple! You are cute magical kitties. You have humans. The humans have problems. Use your magical powers to solve their problems and save the day! Done!

The games comes with a graphic novella, rules, counters, a description and map of River City for GM’s, dice, counters, and character sheets.

“Basically “You are Cute. You are Cunning. You are Fierce. You are Magical Kitties, and it’s time to Save the Day! Every Magical Kitty has a human. Every human has a Problem. In Magical Kitties Save the Day, you need to use your magical powers to solve Problems and save the day! But kitties live in Hometowns that are filled with witches, aliens, hyper-intelligent raccoons, and other foes. They make human Problems worse, so the kitties need to go on adventures to stop them before that can happen.”

It is a great and hilarious introduction to role playing, and at my age suitable for all stages of dementia. They also go very well with my wife’s “Cats and Catacombs” figures.

Dare I say just purrrfect!

Dark Reapers

The Dark Reapers are the most menacing of the Aeldari Aspect Warriors. They exemplify the Aeldari War God Kaela Mensha Khaine in his aspect as the Destroyer, and their skull-masked costume echoes that of their founder and Phoenix Lord, the “Harvester of Souls,” Maugan Ra. They specialise in the use of highly-destructive, long-range heavy weaponry.

The downside to all of this extra equipment, along with the weight of their weapon, is that Dark Reapers are slower and less mobile compared to other Aspect Warriors; given their tactical role of long-range fire support though, this is seen as less of an issue.

Operating in squads of three to five Dark Reapers, one of which may be an Exarch, these units are usually positioned in cover behind the main Eldar battle line, where they can best support the advance of friendly troops and target the enemy’s heavy assets.

The figures are a combination of first and second edition models with a third edition Exarch.

“6: Siege – The Board Game” Kickstarter

I am not a computer gamer, but I am a fan of the Tom Clancy character John Clark and was keen to take a look at the new Kickstarter based on both the Clancy novels and the Unisoft computer games. I had forgotten about this one but fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it good my good gaming mate Blake put me on to this kickstarter as I had missed it.

Tabletop publisher Mythic Games had recently announced that they’re working on this 2-player tactical game based on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Siege.

The Board Game pits two players against each other as they control a hand-selected team of Operators in one of three mission types – Control, Bomb and Hostage. One team will form the defense and populate the interior of the double-sided board, while the attacker stages their initial efforts from the outside. Games are short – four or five rounds across one hour at the high end – and prioritize positioning, quick and efficient takedowns, and understanding how line of sight and terrain can affect various factors.

The trooper pledge version will cost around AU$240 for the basic set and a number of expansions. The sixty miniatures alone are worth the AU$4.00 each so if you are interested in the genre, the games, or the books this one looks like a no-brainer.

BUT Remember Kickstarter responsibly!!

The Harvester of Souls

Maugan Ra, the Harvester of Souls, is the least-trusted of all the Phoenix Lords, for he embodies the death that comes on the battlefield from every place and angle.

Not only does he wield weapons that even the other Eldar mistrust, but he hails from Altansar, a craftworld that was sucked deep into the warp many millennia ago during the Fall.

Through unheard-of effort, Maugan Ra managed to snatch it and the souls of the Eldar aboard from the jaws of Chaos, returning them to the mortal realm, but there are many who wonder just how it was they could have survived for so long inside the ever-perilous Empyrean, and what bargains might have been made during that time

Warp Spiders

The Warp Spiders are Aeldari Aspect Warriors who specialise in the use of a personal teleportation device built into their Aspect Armour to make a series of rapid jumps through the Immaterium that make them nearly impossible to target and allow them to attack the enemy suddenly and disappear before he can strike back.

Taking their name from the creatures who protect the Infinity Circuits of their Craftworlds, the Warp Spiders epitomise the concept of an aggressive defence.

There is no known Phoenix Lord for the Warp Spiders. However, some Aeldari claim that the legendary Aeldari warrior Lhykosidae, known as the “Wraith Spider,” a legendary warrior renowned upon Craftworld Kaelor is the Phoenix Lord of the Warp Spiders.

Most other Aeldari disagree with this supposition because the Phoenix Lords appeared far earlier in Aeldari history and were responsible for founding their Warrior Aspect after their tutelage by Asurmen. The truth of the matter remains currently unknown to Imperial savants.
