The Haunted Forest (2)

With two lots of Savage Apple Trees completed when I only need one I thought I should go the “whole hog” and use up the rest of my “skeleton” trees and create another unit of “Trees from the Haunted Forest”

Double Trouble in the Wars of Ozz and Dragon Rampant!

All four of the Groves, Orchards and Forests!

WW2 Australian Machine Gun Platoon – MMGs (1)

What would a MMG Platoon be without MMG’s? PBI that’s what!

2/2nd Machine Gun Battalion personnel operating a captured Japanese machine gun on Tarakan in 1945.

Two of the four teams I am painting up.

The figures are from Slave2Gaming and are from their Korean Range. Why” because at AU$8.00 they are a lot cheaper than Eureka Miniatures AU$12.50, and Warlord Games at a massive AU$27.50.

There is a slight difference in the shirt cuffs, but not much else. The purest in my was overcome by the miserly old codger that I am!

The other two teams tomorrow.

Apple Blossom Time

I grew up terrorised by not only both both Country and Western, but also the droning on of Wayne Newton’s “Apple Blossom Time” and “Danke Schoen” etc! I have been that scarred for life I can still remember the words to Newton’s songs.

Aaaaaaaaaaargh!

I said I was going to cheat with the Apple trees and here is why. Great trees and nice juicy red apples.

The trees were not not well packed – just a plastic bag in a plastic mailing bag.

As a result there was lots of windfall apples and foliage which I used to decorate the bases.

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE! No Guru stop cringing in the corner I am not talking about Wayne Newton’s songs.

There is a second unit of apple trees.

I originally bought ten to go two to a base because I thought they were small. No they are huge, and although I could fit two on a base, I just could not arrange them so the bases would touch because of the branches and foliage.

Not wanting to waste them I made up the second lot!

I purchased them from Amazon and other than the packaging I am very well pleased with both the trees and their service.

They will be used both as standard “orchard terrain” and “Savage Apple Trees” for Dragon Rampant and Wars of Ozz.

The Guild of Assassins (Male)

Today we finish the Guild of Assassins with the males.

I wanted to be able to use these figures as assassins, bandits, rangers or anything else from the early medieval time period.

I also wanted them to be in some form of uniform and to be brightly coloured as I am sick of painting dull greens and khaki.

The red and yellow turned out to be a good mix. In hindsight I wish I had reversed the colours on the females so they were easy to tell apart.

“Urik Lamed” Male Assassin Leader

“Loweb Ackpane” Male assassin with raised dagger.

“Zelen Tubbut” Male assassin unsheathing dagger.

“Yurch Oisa” Male assassin with sword and dagger.

“Whichwon Furst” Male Assassin with two daggers.

All ten members of the Assassins Guild

Back to Khaki and Greens tomorrow.

The Guild of Assassins (Female)

Another Kickstarter from Midlan Miniatures – this time the Assassins Guild.

Throughout the world of Alberon, when those who have spend their lives steeped so deeply in war and bloodshed,  find they can no longer return to their old lives, may choose to become assassins, hired killers of exquisite skill and capability.

Some may even choose to join the guild of assassins, giving their lives as well as others for coin and esoteric rewards. Killing to live, and living only to kill.

Although the guild doesn’t have a permanent presence in Midlam, from time to time, assassins will arrive on the trade caravans.  The Baron is entirely ruthless in dealing with assassins, and a dangerous game of cat and mouse is played.

“Tufina Point” Female Assassin Leader

“Mig Raine” Female assassin with raised dagger.

“Dee Deli” Female assassin unsheathing dagger.

“Shorta Long” Female assassin with sword and dagger.

“Wanto Menny” Female Assassin with two daggers.

Tomorrow the male assassins.

WW2 Greek Infantry Squad 5

The Rangers of the Eastern Watch (1)

The Eastern Watch covers vast uncharted forest, full of mysteries and threats older than man.  As well as bandits that can be found on the roads and trails through the forest, there are the forest goblins that largely keep to themselves, gigantic spiders and the mysterious green men said to guard the very depths of the forest.

Patrolling these forests are the Rangers of the Eastern Watch, a mysterious company, that swear allegiance to no king or local governor.  They are rarely seen, and although they have been know to help lost travellers and guide them out, they can also respond without mercy to wanton trespass and damage to the forest.

Although the Baron of Midlam claims governance of this forest, it is too wild to be governed, and he limits the intrusion to only the periphery of the forest.  It is said over the Millenia, the the Rangers and the Barons of Midlam have always held an ancient compact, of truce and assistance, when required.

These Rangers are from a Midlam Miniatures Kickstarter

“Arrag”, Female Ranger with horn

“Aragnam”, Male Ranger with raised sword.

“Theylorne”, Male Ranger with raised sword.

“Berwick”, Male Ranger with sword and lantern.

“Cherwood”, Female Ranger with sword and lantern.

Tomorrow I hope to finish the rest of the Rangers.

The Adventurers Inn (1)

Midlam is a city not short of Inns, Taverns or Pubs.  There are Inns for the rich, the poor, merchant guilds, traders, visitors, thieves and fences.  Their exact number is a mystery, but they number in their hundreds, some are legal, most are not.

At ‘The Adventurer’s Rest’ we introduce the staff of one of the more welcoming Inns in Midlam.  Here, any strangers passing through are welcome, as long as they have coins in their pocket.

Of course, if your adventurers are successful, and survive their quest, they will be expected to buy a round of drinks for everyone on their return. Behind the bar are all sorts of mementos of those poor brave souls who did not from their quests.

Hugh Bard The Landlord

Eva – Rheonne the Landlady

Thomas Cooper the Cellarkeeper

Mrs Grubbs the Serving Lady

Mr Dreggs the Pot Collector

Mister Bit the Cleaner

With the staff completed I now need to work on the “regulars”.
