Marins ivres français

Part of the French to confront those pesky British who have the audacity to land on the French coast.

French line Infantry

Whilst not quite enough infantry it is a good start. More line and light infantry, and maybe some dragoons to follow.

What do you do with a drunken sailor….

………re-purpose them for something more useful!!!

More figures from the estate of David Gregory. As I indicated in a previous blog David was a collector of figures rather than a gamer and most of his collection was bits and pieces of things he liked collecting. These British marines and sailors were no exception. They are very nice pieces that there is just enough of to use for some skirmish gaming.

I have decided to repurpose them as a British Naval Party for Sharp Practice but they could equally be used for our Pirate Rules that we displayed at Little Wars 2019.

I have a flag bearer for the marines somewhere but just cannot find it at the moment that I will add later.

This makes a nice sized 54 point list with an additional 12 points of support. I will put together a French force to oppose these in the next blog.

Dashing through the snow or stone cold dead?

With it looking as if I will be in Melbourne for a few more days looking after family carer issues I have had the time to finish a few projects that have been waiting there for me to spend a bit more time on. As well as getting out the Necromunda figures to see what still needs to be done I have had a chance to finish of these from my French Indian Wars collection:

Grenadier Casualties

Stone cold dead

Don’t know why I have these as I do not have any grenadiers in my collection!

Indian casualities

Stone cold dead

Indians in snow shoes Unit 1

Dashing through the snow

Indians in snow shoes Unit 2

More dashing through the snow

These were originally purchased to re-fight the “Battle in Snow Shoes” for which I have long since lost interest in. The only saving grace would be to see Wodger jump of the big rock! At least these add two powerful contingents to the native forces.

With these completed I have now moved on to painting a whole pile of Irregular Miniatures 28mm modern armed civilians. Hope to have these finished in the next couple of days.

Everything Old is New Again

Last night new PIGS inductee showed us his “brand new” acquisition Necromunda!

Hmmm I thought………….. I think I have seen that before:

These are the original plastic Goliath Gang miniatures, that came with the box set, with some very crude conversions ( I am a little better at that these days) painted up as my original Catachan squad because at the time I couldn’t afford the new Catachan metal box – remember when GW figures actually had some weight about them and I am not talking about the price here!!

Metal Cawdor Gang

Redemptionist Gang

These were one of my favourites as they had the type of skill traits I liked playing with.

Another all-time favourite that you can easily see by the numbers was my Delaque gang (again with some crude conversions).

Bounty hunters and thugs etc. to add that additional bite to your gang.

Adding a Ratskin scout to your gang was a great help. Here is a whole gang of them.

Whilst technically a Mordheim gang I used these Sigmarite Sisters as my SOS gang – the Sisters Of Spite.

Now all of this mob was painted back in the dim dark ages when you had to grind up various ochres into powder and you backdrop painting was on the cave wall so they are not a wonderful job. But the good news is there are plenty more where they came from:

More Ratskins, Delaque, Redemptionists, Cawdor, Orlocks and Metal Goliaths, plus Spyrers, Scavvy, Pit Slaves, Wyrds, and not pictured, cos I couldn’t find em, Van Saar and Escher gangs. But wait there is more:

I just loved the Necromunda and Gang Wars magazines. Pity they lasted only a little over a year.

In the words of Peter Allen:

“Don’t throw the pa-ast away
You might need it some rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again.”

Ahhh……….another bloody project!!!!!

Sinning has its rewards

Following on from the last blog, here is the results of breaking my rules and not starting a new project.

These are the final building from my Pirate/Viking village. For details on this project see the following blogs:

Pirate Unveiling

More buildings for “Little wars”

The finished buildings:

Viking Hall

Viking Hall

Grain stores

These are the culprits which caused the detour as i plan to use these for my Kurosawa village.

Gallic Round Huts

Gallic Round Hut

Gallic Round Hut

There you have a very fruitful detour that didn’t take much time away from the Japanese village!!

My life. My rules!!

Things started of very smoothly with me getting lots of the Kurosawa village buildings completed this week.

Unfortunately after completing these grain stores I remembered that I had some Sarissa Dark Age grains stores that I was going to add to my Dark Age village. After rummaging through the garage to find them I also came across a few other Dark Age buildings that needed putting together to complete the Viking village.

This is where everything went wrong.

Being slightly bored with the “shit” that I was doing (where “shit” is a highly technical term defined as “preparation for highly sophisticated practical game theory analysis”) I broke my golden rule and went off on a tangent – hey we all do it and put these together.

These are slightly smaller than the ones painted for the Samurai village but will do to add variety, and can also fit the Viking village they were originally bought for. But it didn’t end there………..

These two dark age round huts will do for multiple game – Dark Ages gaming, Early British round huts for Infamy Infamy, and as the Pygmy Chief’s huts. I have undercoated the sides and have used the mdf “punch out” as a template to cut out the “teddy bear fur” thatched roof material.

The Viking Hall with “teddy bear fur” thatching.

This slight distraction could be excused because I was going to use the grain stores for the Samurai village anyway but these were not the ones that I was talking about.

I also found these that I started putting together last night:

Fertig zum Sprung

I normally hate putting together Warlord’s plastic figures because they can have too many parts, but I have to say I enjoyed these. I am going to use these (eventually) for a Very British Civil War (VBCW) “Operation Sea Lion” type campaign. The problem is, at this time of the war, they had their very boring Luftwaffe grey smock and blue trousers rather than the camo of the end of the war. I think I will ignore “historical” accuracy and opt for the camo anyway as AVBCW is hardly historical in the first place. These will go better with the Brandenburger operatives that I have that use the SS Veteran camo scheme.

So there you have it. I have broken my own rules by going off on a tangent. But they are MY OWN rules so who “bloody” cares!!

I Hate You Meeces to Pieces

When growing up meeces were a large part of my life. Of course there was Pixie and Dixie

but there was also

and my all time favourite

DANGER MOUSE

I was just getting so teary eyed with nostalgia that I decided to finish these Eureka Miniatures Warrior Meeces off with a final wash, dry brushing and flocking.

I intend to use them for Dan Mersey’s “Strongsword”, probably against my Eureka Miniatures Warrior Turtles, if I ever get around to painting them. No doubt Dave K will also be able to dream something up to pit against them, like his deep sea diving ogres!

The only thing these guys fear is their arch enemy. Having one of these cat-a-pulted into your midst can take some dealing with.

MAY THE CHEESE BE WITH YOU.

Note no cats was harmed in the production of this blog (meece I cannot be sure about).
