Bloodletters (2)

A second unit of 16 Bloodletters roll off the Khorne Daemon production line.

Again I have used a gloss finish to give them a “blood wet” look.

I have had to sneek in a few Beastmen to make up the numbers to sixteen.

As you can see when painted the same they fit right in, The axes are the only real “give- away”!

Still another two units of Bloodletters to complete as well as a Daemon Prince

I also need to decide what I am going to do with these “original” Skull Crushers of Khorne.

Do I add some old Bloodletters to ride them, or do I keep them without a rider as they originally were?

I think I will keep them as they originally were; as even with the rider they do not fit in with the current line of miniatures – better to keep them totally and nostalgically different! Any thoughts?

Irish and Viking Berserkers

Ancient Irish warriors, likened to strong and loyal wolves, wore wolf skins or styled their hair during raids for camouflage and intimidation. This practice also connected them to the revered animal in Celtic mythology, as they believed it enhanced their courage and fighting skills in battle.

The werewolves of Ossory feature in medieval Irish, English, and Norse tales, likely inspired by the bravery of ancient Irish warriors wearing wolf skins, who performed remarkable feats in battle.

These creatures are compared to wolves, embodying both admiration and fear, and serve as guardians of magical realms, reflecting the struggle between humanity and wildness. This duality intrigues historians and mythologists, symbolizing the tension between losing control and loyalty to family and land.

Laignech Fáelad were the legendary werewolves of Ossory, who were believed to be descendants of the brave warrior Laignech Fáelad, who was an ancestor of the kings of Ossory.

Viking Baresark on the left and the Irish “wolfman” with Danish Axe on the right.

More Irish warriors to come.

Bones Eldritch Demon

This was a distraction from more serious miniatures! I wanted it to look unique, bright but not over the top. I think I succeeded,

A term from the Cthulhu Mythos, “eldritch” refers to something from a foreign realm, evoking an unsettling sense of the unknown. These beings are among the strangest in the universe, evoking both fear and fascination. They possess attributes that defy ordinary comprehension, embodying chaos and enigma.

They can bend the laws of physics and reality, portraying supernatural abilities that stretch the boundaries of normal life and create a lingering feeling of fear. To think about the unknown is to look into the darkest secrets of the universe, where shadows seem to whisper untold stories, testing sanity and revealing just how fragile human understanding is against cosmic indifference.

Through this exploration of the eerie and inexplicable, we confront our deepest fears, grappling with the truth that some forces lie beyond our comprehension, leaving us questioning our existence in a vast, uncaring reality.

They can appear in both physical and non-physical forms. Often, these physical appearances are just shadows of their true selves, revealing only a small part of their nature. These forms are temporary, like wisps of smoke, making them hard to see. They may also take on different avatars, each showing various aspects of who they are, which helps them interact with the world.

This variety adds to their mystery and complicates the understanding of their true intentions, as each avatar may play a unique role in a larger story.

Some beings are indifferent to lower life forms, while others can be hostile, like the “Mind Flayer” from “Stranger Things.” However, beings like Mr. Nobody from Priplanus can be kind and supportive, though that’s rare.

Third Afghan War – Afghan Regulars (2)

A second unit of regulars completed for the Third Afghan War – only one more to go.

The figures are Eureka miniatures from their Russo – Turkish war range, but they fit in quite well.

The Third Anglo-Afghan War, which lasted from 3 May to 8 August 1919, was a significant conflict initiated by Amir Amanullah Khan’s call for Jihad against the British to achieve Afghanistan’s full independence.

His aim was to unite the Afghan people in response to foreign interference, strengthen his rule, and foster national unity among various ethnic groups.

Although the war was brief, it had a profound impact on Afghan nationalism and marked a key moment in the country’s pursuit of independence, while also drawing international attention to Afghanistan’s geopolitical importance, and was ultimately successful.

The two units completed.

Africa Corps Tanks (1)

More assembly and less painting again today. This time 20mm Panzer III Ausf G tanks for the Desert Africa Corps.

The models are some old kits I had from S-models which are hard to obtain at the moment.

The kits are very easy to put together, and I put all six together and undercoated them in under two hours.

A few more British/Australian 20mm figures to go before I get around to painting these.

Bloodletters (1)

A Bloodletter, known as the “Chosen of Khorne” or “Warmonger of Khorne,” is a fervent Lesser Daemon and foot soldier in Khorne’s Blood Legions, embodying the chaotic spirit of warfare and marching with precision in formations that reflect their zeal and the brutality of battle.

Adorned in spiky armor that reflects the remnants of previous conquests, they create an intense atmosphere on the battlefield, driven by the desire to gain Khorne’s favor through impressive feats. It resembles a chaotic competition, where participants strive to surpass one another in savage displays, fostering a rivalry that challenges even the strongest.

Equipped with Hellblades, these daemons are one of the most efficient troop types of Khorne.

Bloodletters are Khorne’s powerful warriors in his Daemonic legions, known for their fearsome appearance and otherworldly strength. Their intense sunburn-colored skin and blazing eyes evoke unease, while their long Hellblades showcase their lethal capabilities in combat.

At sixteen strong, these “chunky” metal “old school” minis, boast a nostalgic charm and have the power to dominate the tabletop.

There is still 3 units of 16 Bloodletters and a Daemon Prince to paint!

Melbourne Gaming Convention 16 November 2024

MEGA 2024 is a gathering for gaming and modeling fans, focusing on tabletop games. The event opened to the public at 9:30 AM and ran until 6 PM, though I left around 4:30 PM. There were tournaments, reenactment displays, tabletop role-playing, live-action role-playing, competitions, and a Bring-and-Buy area. Food and drinks were available at the on-site bar.

I am the young good looking one!

I was putting on a participation game that saw over 60 young and oldies move dinosaurs around throughout the day. I had a great time but hiding my latent grouch was very tiring!

The initial table set-up with the “munch munches ” on the left and the “stab stabs” on the right. The object for Mr T………Rex was to munch munch the yummy baby “three horns”. The “stab stabs” had to escort their babies off the left hand side of the table or stab the “munch munches!

Having disposed of a “three horne” the T-Rex bull has to spend a turn……….you got it, going “munch munch”.

I had to fight like crazy to get my table right next to the food kiosk and the bar. It was a hard day at the office! This group of dad and five rug rats kept coming back for more.

Munch munch as another “three horn” bites the dust.

The ledger ended up even throughout the day with Guru taking control of the Triceratops for to show em how it was done with a win to even things up after a whole day of munching and stabbing.

Oops another bad day for the “three horns” as the munch munches rule supreme.

The herd doing what they can to protect the “three horn” babies.

An excellent display game of “Pegasus Bridge” put on by the Nunawading club.

Zulus versus the British very thin line.

A sneak preview of the new “Too Fat Lardies” game “Midgard”

15mm participation game of Magnesia run by long time gaming friend, Geoff.

28mm Napoleonic game “participation” game.

An ACW participation game which always had a crowd around the table.

Upstairs was a large game of WW2 “Flames of War”

A WW2 “Chain of Command” North African 28mm game with excellent figures and terrain. I obtained some great modelling ideas from this table.

A whole room was dedicated to an Infinity competition with awesome terrain.

Infinity in action.

The “Lard Zone with my dinosaurs in the fore ground.

Traders galore

Australia’s most well known figure manufacturer Eureka Miniatures supports almost every convention.

Battlefield Accessories are always a regular attender at Melboure cons.

A new local player on the scene with the game mapping software.

GUF a small gaming store chain with a huge inventory.

“True Strike Dice” another new “start up” from Bendigo. Great to see such product knowledge and youthful enthusiasm.

Warplings, a small group of gamers that had some really simple fantasy (below) and Sci-Fi (ab0ve) rules. I wish I had more time to give them a go.

A local re-enactment group with an excellent display. The table of WW1 medical equipment was awesome as was their knowledge of the equipment.

Miniature Horde was another supplier that was new to me.

Warsurge were their from Warnambool with their very successful Kickstarter rules. Warsurge rules allow you to play any figures against any other across time. Kind of like Dr Who meets the land that Time forgot.

A really great day and will happily participate next year.

The Wizard that Guru forgot!

I’m not entirely sure where I scored this 28mm wizard miniature, but I suspect he’s been around since the time of dinosaurs—well, maybe not that long, but he’s definitely seen some things. For the better part of forty years, he’s been chilling in a fishing tackle box, cozied up in his own little nook, completely oblivious to the outside world (which is probably for the best, considering the fashion trends).

With his trusty chair, an overflowing library of dusty old books, and the company of a wise old owl and a baby red dragon—who’s probably just there for the snacks—he looks about as relaxed as a wizard can be. Immersed in ancient tomes that are maybe a bit more “spellbook” and a lot less “self-help,” he spends his days wondering if he’ll ever be worthy of the title “Most Relaxed Sorcerer.”

His wizard hat, perpetually askew, only adds to the whimsical look, while his cozy slippers make him look like he’s just a step away from accidentally foiling a prophecy while fetching his potion ingredients. And on those rare adventurous days, when he decides to brave the great outdoors to gather herbs, he returns with grand tales of epic quests that probably involved nothing more dangerous than a stray cat.

That secluded life is about to get a hilariously wild upgrade! With, you guessed it, his very first coat of paint—because who doesn’t love a fresh coat of “let’s take on the world?”—he’s gearing up to navigate a wacky world of mystical game tables scattered with enchanted relics that might just have a mind of their own.

Not to mention, he’ll be sharing space on a glass shelf with the Mages’ Guild, the Circle of Mages, the Conclave of Sorcerers, the Arcane Brotherhood, or whatever flamboyant title they’re calling themselves this week.

As he tiptoes through the mind-boggling maze of arcane knowledge, he may end up sitting with these characters for another forty years, arguing over the best spell like it’s a heated sports debate, but I like to imagine he’ll grab some popcorn and join the heroes who are busy tossing fireballs for kicks and soaring above the countryside like a confused bird on a caffeine high, exploring uncharted realms, making alliances with legendary beings, and maybe, just maybe, crafting outrageous tales that will leave future generations wondering if he was a total legend or just extremely lucky! In these vibrant adventures, he would become an integral part of a fantastical tapestry woven with threads of bravery, camaraderie, and unexpected twists; he might even discover hidden talents, unravel ancient secrets that have long been buried in the dust of forgotten tomes, and learn to wield his own unique brand of magic that could rival even the most revered sorcerers.

With each encounter, whether battling formidable beasts or negotiating with enigmatic entities, he could gain not only prowess but wisdom, enriching the lore of his journeys and ensuring that the epic sagas of his life would echo through time, inspiring dreamers and adventurers for ages to come.

Sorry – a little carried away with this one!

No painting today but did get these assembled.

I have just started working on my Celtic army for either SPQR, or the new “Brethren” rules, which are not to bad. I will do a review on these soon.

40 Warlord Celtic Warriors assembled. They went together reasonably well, and even without Guru storming out of the Ashram in a temper!

I hate putting together mulit-part figures, but do enjoy the variety when the are finished. Until then I hate em!

These figures are quite good with some great poses you can work on. Did I say I hate multi-part figures?

This shot gives a good idea on the different types of heads.

I cannot wait until I get a chance to paint them. Not quite at the top of the pile yet, however.

Daemon Prince

A Daemon Prince is a Human who has become a powerful creature of Chaos as a reward for selflessly serving one of the main Chaos Gods in their dark and malevolent pursuits. In this transformation, they willingly give up their humanity in exchange for extraordinary, god-like powers and the promise of immortality that comes with their new existence.

However, this transformation is not without its sinister consequences, as they lose their free will in the process, becoming a mere pawn in the grand schemes of Chaos. Their minds are often filled with the twisted desires of the god they serve, presenting them with a never-ending struggle between their former human identity and the overwhelming influence of their newfound chaotic nature.

A Daemon Prince is a powerful and terrifying extension of Chaos, embodying its dark and tumultuous energy. Becoming a Daemon Prince is the top goal for the strongest Champions of Chaos, as it grants them not only immortality but also immense power that far surpasses the capabilities of ordinary mortals.

For the followers of Chaos, the goal of strength and control is a concrete aim that motivates them in their relentless quest for power and dominance over their rivals. Driven by an insatiable hunger for achievement, these followers dedicate their lives to honing their skills and pushing their limits to ascend the ranks of influence.

Those who succeed and become Champions are rewarded not only with immense power but also with the gift of eternal life, allowing them the endless opportunity to pursue their ambitions, forge their destinies, and etch their names into the annals of legend for generations to come.

Amidst the countless fallen aspirants, a uniquely talented devotee strives for greatness, sacrificing much to catch the eye of the Dark Gods. Their acts of murder not only enhance their skill but also etch their legacy into dark history.

Only those who serve dark masters receive Daemonhood, ascending as demigods imbued with Warp energies that transform their essence and expand their bodies beyond mortal understanding. They celebrate their newfound power among awed acolytes, whose reverence fuels their already swelling pride and ambition, gaining abilities that solidify their authority and deepen their connection to malevolent forces.

Daemon Princes combine the brute strength of Daemons with the combat skill and tactical acumen of Space Marines, making them formidable opponents on the battlefield. These beings, once mere mortal champions, are elevated to their terrifying glory through acts of immense sacrifice and unwavering devotion to their dark gods.

However, this transformation is not without its perils; if the Champion fails in the eyes of their god, their lives and ambitions end abruptly as they are cast aside. In this tragic fall from grace, they descend into the horrific mutant state of a Chaos Spawn, becoming a grotesque parody of their former selves, stripped of their former prowess and left to roam the realms of chaos in a tortured existence, eternally yearning for the power they once wielded.

This model has been painted up as a Khorne Daemon Prince, even though I think it was originally a Slaaneshy one!
