Fighting Vehicle for Xenos Rampant

I have had this Stargrunt model since 1997 when I picked it up from the Ground Zero stand at Salute.

Twenty four years later it has finally been put together and painted!

I intend to use it for Xenos Rampant.

It has been painted up to look like it has been salvaged from a junk yard!

Close up of the “rust”.

The “crab” legs give it an odd but cool look.

Magnets hold the turret on.

More Xenos to come!

WW2 Greek “Sky Pilots”

These are some of the best WW2 chaplain models on the market. They are well sculpted, full of character, and highly detailed.

These are great models, and I toyed with the idea of basing therm together as a vignette, but in the end they ended up on individual bases – not sure why.

With their weapons and ammunition belts, I think they portray the national, if somewhat divided, Greek resistance and resilience!

Back to some more infantry squads in the next few days.

National Store Mistakes

This post if more for the Aussie readers but it may be the same in other countries. In Australia Bunnings is a large national hardware store. I have found through the years that they continually misname their products.

First I found this miniature crop mistakenly named synthetic grass.

Next there were these wheat crops misnamed as door mats.

Hills misnamed as foam

Hedgers misnamed as scourers

SWe arer all probably familiar with the above wrongly named products but the “pièce de résistance” has to be this wrongly named tool box that gaming colleague Drew put me on to:

Robust hard plastic case – a bit like the GW ones.

More importantly they are filled with “pluck foam”

These “Tactix” tool boxers come in three sizes small at $45.00, medium at $65.00 and large at $85.00. They are a fraction of the price of traditional miniature cases, and are a standard stock item, so always in stock, but only available at the larger Bunnings stores.

A really great buy.

Xenos Rampant Game 5 September 2023

“Uber Geek” and I played another Xenos Rampant game with his newly painted force against my “Silver team” Halo Spartans. Each Spartan figure is classified as an Elite Unit.

Varnak advances

The more we play and learn the subtleties of the rules the more we are enjoying the system.

Kai takes an advantage point to use her sniper rifle.

Riz in the lead and Master Chief John move to attack the aliens.

The battlefield (first use of the terrain from Azazel).

Alien elite move forward

Alien light infantry

“Mater Chief” loses a strength point as he moves to attack.

The dastardly “bots” that did the damage!

Moving forward with Master Chief suffering more damage!

Varnak charges and causes the alien Elite to run.

Another charge sees the Alien Elite dispersed.

Kai’s long range shooting is starting to have an effect.

Master Chief charges forward after destroying an alien heavy unit in close combat.

The remaining aliens turn to face the onslaught from “Master Chief” and “Riz” when the battle ends.

This was the first of the Scenario games that we played (Scenario In dia – Diversion) and was more enjoyable than the “stand-up” fights we had to date.

Another great game with “Uber Geek”!

Questions and requests on the “Mantic” Kickstarter

Hi everyone. I have had some requests about the “Mantic Alien Kickstarter”:

  • The models are made out of the normal Mantic hard plastic;
  • The gaming mats are neoprene backed but are slightly thinner than normal;
  • Yes the mats come with carry/storage bag;
  • Can we have some photos?

One of the alien artefacts which comes in two parts.

An alien “shooty thingy”

A small and large alien plant. The large one comes in three pieces that stack easily. The plants can be mixed and matched.

Alien “artefacts”

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps.

Mantic Kickstarter –

You wait sometimes years for a Kickstarter to eventually arrive and this week I have had two in two days!

I picked up some forest base markers

Two boxes of the Alien trees

Two 6X4 neoprene mats

and two boxes of Alien ruins etc

After just having finished the Sci-Fi terrain that Azazel sent I now have a whole lot of new terrain to add to it. Lucky I am semi-retired!

Marvel Zombies Kickstarter

The first wave which was the Marvel Zombies basic game set arrived some time ago, ans I have been waiting impatiently for the second wave with all of the fun stuff to arrive.

It arrived today in two large boxes.

My favourite – the “Fantastic 4 Under Siege”

The Guardians of the Galaxy

The clash of the Sinister Six

Sentinel Strike – these figures are huge!

Hydra Resurrection

X-Me4n Resistance

Now before you ask – NO YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH ZOMBIES!

More thrift shop scrounging!

I went on my regular scrounging round of the local Thrift shops and came back with more great bargains.

Kokoda by Peter Fitzsimons is readily available but I have been refusing to pay the new price. For AU $2.00 it was well worth it!

This book alone sells for US$166.00 on Abe books which was a real steal at AU$4.00!

I have been wanting this one for a while, as Potts was probably Australia’s most underrated officer. As a first edition it was the most expensive book I purchased at AU$5.00 – less than 10% of the new price.

Another classic

This one is also difficult to get. I know have two of the three volumes on Rabaul and am still hunting for for Volume 3: “Target Rabaul”. It is available from the US 2nd Hand at US$60.00 plus nearly that again for postage. I will keep looking in Oz!

I have had a good run with books lately but this makes up for the fact that more often than not I come back empty handed!

The completed Fallschirmjaeger – “Ready to Jump!”

Thanks to the great work by S.O.G. the army is now completed.

Fallschirmjaeger Captain’s command squad.

Now all S.O.G. and I need to do is to “give the signal to jump” and get them in to action!

WW2 Fallschirmjaeger Forward Observer

Trained in liaising with artillery batteries or Luftwaffe squadrons, forward observer teams can coordinate devastating barrages of fire or close air support to cover the advance of troops or soften an enemy position before an assault.

The Fallschirmjaeger are no exception, however they can only have an Luftwaffe forward observer

This is the last of the Fallschirmjaeger and a big thanks goes to S.O.G. for helping to get these completed. I am a bit short of time today so I will provide some pics tomorrow of the completed army.
