High Noon in Dry Gultch

Wargaming is a social hobby. In fact one night “she who must be obeyed” (SWMBO) walked passed the gaming table and made the comment that we didn’t seem to have moved anything. What she didn’t realise was that the toys are just the excuse to get together talk “ship” and have a not so quiet drink or three.

So what do you do when Wednesday gaming night comes around and you are in social isolation (do people really hate me)?

Well you set up a game, play it through, and text all the juicy bits to your mad mates, and chuckle at their inane replies.

At the moment Wednesday night gaming is great timing as it coincides with “Married at First Sight” and rescues us all from having to watch it with SWMBO! “Married” featured in a lot of the texts!!

I will try and capture as much of the banter as I can in this blog.

Dry Gultch, but not dry for long! Set up for last night’s solo game. A pity my opponent is a right royal b@st@rd!

Puncho and his mad mates (looks a bit like Wednesdays with the gang).

“Wild” Twerp and his brothers and deputies

Puncho and his mates enter the town seeking revenge on the Twerp brothers for the shooting of Puncho’s brother.

The Twerp brothers congregating in the Undertakers, their favourite haunt.

I use “jewels” picked out of a bag instead of the Dead Man’s Hand cards for initiative. Eight red gems were drawn before the Twerps go to move. Here they can be seen spreading out to encircle the Twerps.

Time for a cheap cheeky Cabernet Merlot. Let’s face it when isn’t it!!

20200325_192322

Puncho called a temporary halt to proceedings because SWMBO (be very afraid) said it was time for dinner.

20200325_194954

Turn 2: With Puncho allowed to resume (be very afraid), Chuck, the rifleman, shoots at a Bandito causing an under fire marker and a nerve test which is promptly passed.

20200325_200059

Someone is going to learn a lesson and get a canning at the school house. But who?

20200325_201746

Turn 3: Chuck took out a Bandito and then was taken out himself by a crack long range shot from another Bandito on top of the water tower with a D20 roll of 20!

20200325_201800

Take that Mr Connors!

20200325_201837

Meanwhile back at the schoolhouse “here endeth the lesson”. Three Banditos down for the loss of the Sheriff. Who shot him?

Turn 4: Puncho crashed down the schoolhouse door and killed Marshall Twerp outright with a six difference in the opposed dice rolls!!! Where is Bucko’s dice rolling when you need them?

As indicated I now use coloured jewels instead of the cards.

Turn 4 continued to get even worse for the Twerps with another lawman down. All would be OK if they could only find that Corral.

20200325_204139

A deputy shoots three times and reeks (isn’t that such a good word?) revenge.

It was now the end of a very bloody turn four, and both side were below half strength and needing to take a big nerve test.

The Banditos rolled first and with Puncho still on the table they needed to roll 2+ on a D10. Yep you guessed it……………………………. They rolled a three and survived.

Now it was the Twerps turn and with both Marshall Twerp and Sheriff Twerp down Deputy Dawg had the next highest nerve of four. You can always rely on your best friend right? Wrong! He also rolled a three and the Twerps, or at least those left of them rode off into the sunset.

In one of the best renditions that you have ever heard of “Speedie”, Dry Gultch echoed to the sounds of:

Ariba! Ariba! Andale! Andale!

Gotham City car dealers

These pics are for “imperialrebelork” who wanted some info on the police cars I used in the last blog.

20200302_203409

The police cars (4) I bought on ebay. They are 1/42 scale “Kinsmart” Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors that I picked up from Ebay seller rawrmax (15628) for $7.39 US each.

The rest are all 1/43 scale vehicles picked up from Aldi supermarkets, some for $4.95 and some for $9.95 and are all from Welly.

The vehicles have yet to be dirtied up to make them suitable for post-apocalyptic/Batman games. I don’t think I will have to “smash em up” for scenery as with copious quantities of “dirt”, a few scratches, and turning them on their side or upside down with a door open should do the trick.

I am after an ambulance, fire truck, and taxi to complete the collection. I have a plastic toy rubbish truck to be painted up.

With regards to scale you can see form the photos with the “big whimp” (oops did I say that out loud – go Copplepot!!) that 1/43 scale is OK. It is a bit larger than the 1/56 scale of 28mm figures but close enough for me.

Imperialrebelork hope this helps.

Gotham Grease and Gunk

Those of you who have been looking at the blogs would have noticed that a number of battle reports (notably Batman) have been fought on a city terrain.

The objective is to finish a central 900 X 900 industrial site (Gotham Grease and Gunk) flanked by a dock yard and a railway siding on either side.

Here are the latest additions:

The Police headquarters

20200228_16342920200228_16285920200228_16302220200228_16301120200228_16294920200228_16292820200228_16292020200228_16290520200228_163421

The building is a TTCombat “Police Station” and the figures for display are Heroclix models. not sure where I obtained the police cars.

The uncompleted  railway yard with Sarissa Roman Temple

The track is from TT Combat. The Roman Temple for my Gangs of Rome collection will double up as a Gotham Civic Building probably with a statue of the man himself. Go Cobblepot.

I plan to have a couple of Sarissa railway platforms and the El Alamein station as a railway siding for Gotham Grease and Gunk transportation of their “Gunk”

The shot also show how I have made the streetscape using mdf place mats to provide footpaths and define the roadways. Once side of the board has the street running diagonal to limit line of sight across the board and the other a traditional north/south orientation.
