“Looks Like We Have Another Mystery On Our Hands” (Fred Jones)

This phrase from the character Fred Jones always signalled the start of another “thrilling” Mystery Inc adventure.

I have had these figures from Hasslefree Miniatures for such a long time it has been great to see them finally finished. You would have already seen their Post Apocalyptic version of these which I have painted a lot darker and more sinister.

7TV2 have a programme guide specifically for Mystery Inc and whilst they are not exactly a “magical mystery tour” they are worth the “invitation” to “take you away”!

The Man Himself (or should I say Great Dane)

SCOOBY DOO (Oh I Love you)

FRED JONES

Is this Frostie? Nope its Shaggy………………………I THINK!

“ZOINKS” its NORVILLE “SHAGGY” ROGERS

“Jeepers! Is that a clue?” (DAPHNE BLAKE)

“Jinkies! This is an important clue”.

THE MYSTERY MACHINE

The four teens and a dog from Crystal Cove – “Most Hauntedest Place on Earth”

And surely I could only end with “Ruh – roh – RAGGY” especially if I was given a “SCOBBY SNACK”!!

Definitely not from “Meet the Midwife”.

I was looking for a suitably crazy medic for my Zombie hunter gang and found that good nurse minis are hard to find. Finally I came across this miniature from “Raging Heroes”:

Mad Nurse Bernadette!!

With that alluring look, sexy mask and the way she dons that glove I just had to have her.

I have to say that I found the service from “Raging Heroes” excellent and postage very prompt.

Can’t wait to get this miniature on to the roster sheet.

Bill and Ben! The Flower pot men?

Well it is hardly the “bottom of the garden” and “Dan the Potato Man” and the “Man who works in the garden” are both nowhere to be seen but Bill, Ben and Weed are there in the gardens of Gotham!

Unfortunately they have morphed into something a bit more sinister and the “woman who works in the garden” has replaced the man!!

This is a great set from Knight Models and one of my all time favourites. The Ivy model and base is a bit impractical for gaming but who cares as it is absolutely awesome and has come up great.

“IVY” – the Woman at the end of the Garden

“BILL”

“BEN”

“WEED”

The CAPED Crusader

The Batman figure from the 3rd Edition boxed set really puts the CAPED into the “Caped Crusader”. The model harks back to the front cover artwork of The “Caped Crusader” graphic novel from the 1980’s (yes I am a geek for knowing this, but NOT a nerd!!!):

Minus the love interest of course!!!

Whilst this is a dramatic model it is totally impractical for gaming and one that I dislike immensely. Not one of Knight Models best efforts IMHO. Despite this I am happy with how it came out.

With tomorrow being a combination Christmas breakup/games day/ and John’s 60th birthday party for our crazy games group I don’t think I will get any more finished for a few days but here’s hoping!!

The Beast Of Hollow Mountain

What can I say…. I am surprised that this hasn’t become a cult movie….. well not really but the wife and I had huge belly laughs while watching this.

A classic western theme of Girl is betrothed to the villain, villain hassles hero, hero wins and gets the girl. Only this time throw in an Allosaurus and you have, surprise surprise, a plot twist.

From the video jacket: “The Beast of Hollow Mountain is a 1956 weird Wild West horror (a least for the time) movie about an American cowboy living in Mexico who discovers his missing cattle are being preyed upon by an Allosaurus who would later attack villagers, and be eventually destroyed by getting lured into quicksand (by the hero of course) and drowning”.

In addition to the actors walking around in “dinosaur boots” it also introduced a stop motion called replaced animation to bring the dinosaur to life. Crude by today standards but humorously effective.

Ahh Cisco?
Nope that doesn’t work!
But this does!!

Now those of you who regularly read the blog would know that our group plays “Dead Man’s Hand” a lot, but only a few of you would be aware that we have also dabbled in our own rules of “In Bellio Lacerta”, or fighting lizards.

I think I can see a synergy of rules coming to the fore!!!

“It’s only a matter of time”

In the very cheesy words in 1968 (yep I am that old) by Russell Morris “Oh yeah oh yeah” it was great to finally have a game with the new PIGS (Phillip Island Gaming Society) piglet, NICK, that arrived during Covid-19 much to the surprise of all of us.

Dare I say it but it was great to see that he was a “real thing” – Covid must be getting to me!!!

As Nick had not figure gamed for years I decided to play the same game that he had watched over zoom the week before to help him out. Unfortunately this didn’t quite go to plan!

Nick chose the Daleks and it turned out to be “EXTERMINATE? My ASS!!!!”

We both had a great time (well I did) and the little piggy has vowed to return again. Great to finally catch up Nick.

White Panzer Vs T34

With two great tank movies out I thought a game of “What a Tanker” would be a good plan.

The T34 (Me)

and Panzer 111 (Steve)

are evenly matched in “What a Tanker” (each at 5A/5D dice) so these were chosen.

The first game started and as soon as the T34 was in range true to the movie:

The Panzer III was blown up in the first shot!! being the gentleman that I am I offered Steve the T34 which he refused mumbling something about lucky shot and revenge.

Game 2 started with the Panzer 111 being a bit more conservative and trying to out manuever the T34 which being a fast tank under the rules was a bit difficult. In the end Herr Steve drove straight down the road:

With a predictable result:

Determined (I would say stubbon) Steve soldiered on with the Panzer III. This time moving forward and then retreating to near his base edge. As I did not want to humiliate him a third time the T34 moved out of ambush and attacked.

Unfortunately the T34 shot into the rear of the Panzer III missed totally. Letting Steve win game three was hard given the opportunities he was providing me!!!

Finally the Panzer III turned around and fired.

White Panzer pumps his fist into the air yelling out “I know nutting”.

Another great “What a Tanker” series of quick games.
