The girls from the bush……..

A play on words of the Lee Kernaghan’s quintessential Australian bush ballad, but be warned this post is very, very, very, politically incorrect.

These figures are from Brother Vinni’s “action” girls, “game” girls, and “Female Brigade” ranges. As the names suggest, if you are unaware of Brother Vinni‘s range, they are very “bohemian” to say the least!

These four figures are the start of a female jungle fighters team for F28 and Kill Team.

As the figures are quite detailed and I cannot be sure what age of people is viewing these posts I have censored all of the naughty “bits” so those over the age of sixty do not have heart attacks!

Army Medic

Missile “handler”

Don’t you like the way she handles her “missile”.

Flamer – could have been dangerous if she was dressed as the others!

Don’t ya just hate risk managers!

Missile “launcher”

I will post more of these when I have another four finished. It will take some time because, and I have to be careful how I say this, I can only fit one on the end of my painting stick at a time!

A “work-in-progress” F28 team

I am painting up a small group of Mantic Deadzone “Enforcer” figures for our F28games, and maybe the occasional Deadzone game.

If I have it right this should make a 60 point team. Our resident F28 “Guru” ( but not THE GURU!) is giving me feedback to make sure I have things correct. Thanks “JB”!

A “marine” Sergeant almost finished.

A “riot marine” with riot shield.

A “marine heavy” with big shoota.

A D.O.G. drone with big shoota. If any one knows what the D.O.G. stands for can you let me know.

A pathfinder sniper.

A pathfinder NCO with pistol, a hope and a prayer!

Pathfinder with rifle.

I hope to have these finished for our next game on Tuesday night.

Searching for a needle in a haystack! An F28 skirmish game.

The Aliens have landed and are searching for a small radioactive needle in a Western Australian haystack! For those who are not aware of the pun please click on this! I was once told by an old boss, “if it is a choice between a conspiracy and a stuff up go for the stuff up every time”! Seems he was correct – it wasn’t terrorists or aliens after all.

This was a three-way game between my grey Aliens, Rod’s super duper Hunters and Tyrone’s jungle fighters. I won the initiative for the first turn and raced towards the haystack and with my first initiative. With my second I searched and failed my 50% chance of finding it.

Not to be outdone I chose to use one of my three fate points on a re-roll and again failed! DOH!

This mean it wasn’t in this haystack and I had to search the second one right in the middle of the Jungle Fighters deployment. So much for superior technology. The aliens with their inferior intellect will pay for this!

I try to prov ide a fire base to support an assault on the next haystack (they can be very vicious you know).

Second turn and chaos reigns. My fglamer moves up and causes havoc with the jungle aliens. The jungle fighters opened fire with their sniper on the heroic freedom fighter with the flamer before the fire ball was unleashed and missed. A second dude fired……….. and missed. A third fired and you guessed ……… and missed!

Truth justice and the Martian way wins out!

The flamer took down the leader, a medic and another jungle fighter, and those Martian heroes in support started clearing up the rest. Another truth and justice fighter reached the haystack and found it immediately before being pinned by the big bad bounty hunters.

The end of turn two with most of the action happening around the second haystack.

Minor skirmishing happening on the rest of the battlefield. We had now reached the end phase for trun two and the Martian freedom fighters had a cunning plan to defeat the “aliens”. As I was pinned I could elect to fall back between 6″ and 12″ ignoring terrain restrictions. I just need to exit any table edge with the radio active needle. It was agree that because I was only pinned I could take the needle with me.

Here I am with the radioactive needle less than 6″ from the table edge. My Leader and two others fell back to protect the heroic Martian.

Hell was reigning down from everywhere as the “aliens” concentrated their fire on the poor innocent Martian.

The hero, Marvin, need to roll a six to save from the only attack to hit him. Marvin of course succeeded. A fate token was used by the dastardly alien bounty hunters to force a re-roll. Marvin again succeeded with a second six. This time the jungle fighters used a fate token to force a re-roll. Again Marvin successful! The bounty hunters decided to use their last fate token to force a re-roll and this time the poor Marvin failed. Not daunted he pulled out his lucky charm in the form of the Martians last fate token …………….HE FAILED!

A martyr for the cause of truth and justice. Marvin the Martian Martyr will forever be remembered (at least while this post is on the WWW anyways!). The Martian leader and Marvins two other supports were pinned and the cause appeared hopeless.

With our spaceship hovering overhead the Martian contingent were beamed up along with the radioactive needle. The dastardly Bounty hunters and the very uncouth Jungle Fighters were also beamed up and subjected to medical research by probing “where the sun don’t shine”!

Remember – Guru says, “only winners and little grey men with fast space ships write history”!

See “things that go bump in the night” post.

A great and hilarious scenario of F28.

A pity the heroes grasped defeat from the jaws of victory.

This totally unbiased account was taken from the Martian Daily Gazette.

Xenos Rampart (11) – Primitive Infantry

After twelve units and twelve days later, my Ascalabotean (climbers) Army is finally finished. The numbers of units grew over that time but I am happy both with how they have turned out and how quickly I have been able to get them done, especially considering that a Watchtower, a 20mm Arab Army for “Men Who Would be Kings” and a 28mm Stuart tank have also been finished during that time!

The large planet of Tonitrua Lacertis has the largest but also the most primitive population. Living in small tribes the primitives are protected from the many predators by the “Alveare Domini”, a large-like predator that roams the surface in search of prey, but seems to also have a psychic link and almost a mother-like instinct to protect the Tonitrua.

The war-like Tonitura are only more than happy to assist the other species in defending the planet and moons of Ascalabotes, but will not travel “off system” as they hold their land and the “Alveare Domini” in such reverence they will not leave them. Those that have been forced to do so have died as a result of severe psychotic episodes, often taking many of their own countrymen with them.

Primitive infantry are numerous, cheap and are extremely difficult to stop.

With the army now finished (we all say that don’t we), here is how they look altogether:

This gives plenty of variety with everything from monsters to “modern” heavy infantry in full battle armour.

There is enough units to run both an army from the Military Elite with “modern” troops lead by a Psycher from the Military Elite, and a native army lead by the battle hardened “Tuthruck”.

I really like how the Wargames Atlantic Lizardmen have come out and will probably get two more boxes to field another three more native units. Not that useful in games terms, but at just four of the twenty-four points of the army, sixty of them will be difficult to deal with.

Xenos Rampart (10) – Scouts

Some Tonitrua had progressed further along the evolutionary lifecycle and had developed the use of the common language and with their innate hunting skills were excellent scouts and recon unit

Recon units are lighter than Light Infantry and are not very well equipped to take on enemy infantry.

Their main role is to infiltrate behind enemy lines, ambush, and harass enemy units with sniper rifles.

When threatened they are best advised to disappear as stealthily as they appeared.

I nhave decided not to upgrade this unit but could be given Counter Sniper Training, Sniper teams and Veteran upgrades that would make them superb in their role but quite expensive at 7 points.

Unit Leader

Tomorrow the last of the tribal units although two more Horde units will follow down the track.

Xenos Rampart (9) – Heavy Infantry 3.

The last Heavy Infantry unit is quite different. War Leader “Tathruk” is astute and does not believe in putting all of his Lacerta eggs in one basket! With the other Heavy Infantry designed for close combat this one has superior shooting capacity,

With their Sniper Assault Rifles (SAR) they have armour piercing rounds (reduces enemy armour by 1) 1 point, and Heavy Weapons (6’s counts as 2 hits when shooting) 2 points, for a total of 5 points.

Finally we get to the tribal units which are the bulk of the army.

Xenos Rampart (8) – Heavy Infantry 2.

This unit of Heavy Infantry is also equipped with Assault Doctrine (increase close combat by +1) +1 point, and Close Quarters Doctrine (reduced shooting capacity) -1 point, for a total of 3 points.

That makes two Heavy Infantry units that are designed to get up close and personal which befits an army lead by “Tathruk”.

One more Heavy Infantry to follow.

Xenos Rampart (6) – Light Troops and some radical surgery

Today a second unit of light troops that can also join with the previous post’s Light troops to form a single increased size unit.

Notice anything wrong! I sure didn’t when I was painting it.

Maybe this will help! It just goes to show that when quickly batch painting I am not concentrating on the detail……….OK maybe it is a fundamental goof up!

Fortunately the medical facilities on “Civitas Lacerta” are advanced, and true to his reputation for caring for his men, Tathruk was able to find an excellent surgeon for the radical surgery – one might even say he was a guru! Soon the light trooper was back serving with his squad.

Heavy troopers tomorrow.

Xenos Rampart (5) – Light troops and some.

Yesterday I indicated that having a missile launcher in Tathruk’s close combay squad was a bit inappropriate so, whilst I have kept the launcher, he has been replaced.

I also indicated that I had some toy crocodiles that I was using as Quitana, a large prehistoric Australian mega fauna, for our Australian pre-invasion games.

I will look for some more to paint up like the Crocosaur, but in the meantime they will do.

when I do them up specifically for this army they will be used for a lesser Xenomorph and will be prodded along by a herder!

Now for the light troops:

These guys are great for seizing objectives and skirmishing but cannot stand up to a heavy or elite unit in close combat or a fire fight.

Tomorrow the second light unit.
